Re: F1 appearances in the pipeline?

Hi there,

Not sure if this is old news or not.

There will be a McLaren F1 Longtail in 'Gulf' colours at next weekends Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Here is a section from the press release: -

"Showcase of Gulf racing history at Goodwood Festival
2008 Le Mans class-winning Aston Martin amongst exhibits
Fresh from its GT1 win at the weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours, the victorious Gulf-liveried Aston Martin DBR9 will now return to the UK to take its place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside arguably the largest collection of powder blue and orange sportscars ever assembled in the UK, in celebration of Gulf's racing history.
From the historic Ford GT40 and Porsche 917 to the more recent McLaren F1 supercar, Gulf has enjoyed an association with some of the greatest marques and racing drivers in the history of world endurance racing. Its latest success, with the DBR9 of Aston Martin Racing, represents a fitting way to celebrate 40 years since the first Gulf win at Le Mans with the legendary Ford GT40 as Jonathan Turner, Managing Director of Gulf Retail, explains:
"What a way to celebrate such an historic landmark with a class win for Aston Martin Racing in Gulf's powder blue and orange. It was a very special moment on Sunday when we cheered the DBR9 across the chequered flag. Now we are looking forward to the Festival of Speed at Goodwood where the wider public can see our latest Le Mans winner alongside some of those cars that have contributed to Gulf's fantastic racing heritage."
The 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place over the weekend of 11th-13th July and included within the Gulf collection will be this year's GT1 class winning Aston Martin DBR9, a GT40, Porsche 908 and 917, Ford Mirage, 1994 Kremer-Spyder and 1997 McLaren F1 GTR 'longtail'.
"We are very proud that a festival with the presence and prestige of Goodwood has decided to celebrate Gulf's 40 years of achievements in motorsport," continues Turner. "At a time when we are woerking hard to increase the size and profile of Gulf's UK forecourt and lubricants business, this is a mouth-watering prospect for all those associated with Gulf and the many enthusiasts who, like me, have grown up with images of GT40s winning at Le Mans and Steve McQueen doing battle in a Gulf 917. It promises to be another very special weekend!"
The #009 Aston Martin Racing DBR9 in Gulf powder blue and orange was driven to victory at Le Mans by David Brabham, Darren Turner and Antonio Garcia, beating off the challenge of Corvette to secure the GT1 title. "

I got two free tickets in the post today for next Friday, not sure if going or not but if I do please rest assured there will be loads of pics.

Regards

Tim

Re: F1 appearances in the pipeline?

Hmmm - will it be #12R or will the factory be kind enough to loan out the longtail, #20R?

Have fun whoever goes. I'll get over there eventually - probably in a year when no McLarens participate.

EDIT: <reading comprehension owns me>

Hopefully someone can snag a shot of the chassis plate for us.

Cool - if there are enough of you there then someone can create a diversion to distract the event staff allowing one of you to climb the barricade and capture our chassis plate photo.

Mabye the old Alka-Seltzer-foaming-at-the-mouth trick?

Bonus points if you get video of the entire affair.

How about the softmint-and-coke-in-the-mouth-at-the-same time trick (try it and see ). I'll climb, and I'm quick too, so they'll never catch me!

I'm sure between us a chassis plate shot can be gained

Re: F1 appearances in the pipeline?

Now that we have gotten Goodwood out of the way, I have it on high authority that a rather special F1 road car will be attending the Monterey weekend in mid-August - as will I, barring anything unforeseen.

This particular F1 ranks as one of the nicest examples here in the USA and is definitely a crowd favorite I believe. For those who might be flirting with the idea of attending or happen to think very highly of this particular car and want to make some plans now, the events in Monterey will offer an excellent opportunity to see it up close.

What car is it you ask? How about this one?

I know there are several folks here who rank #036 as one near the top of their list, so hopefully I won't be the only one of us with an opportunity to see the car during those 5 days it will be in Monterey.

Does anyone know of any other F1s that might be attending this year's events? There is another one I expect might do so, and I'm going to try to find out for sure.

Re: F1 appearances in the pipeline?

Hi there,

Next weekend 25/26 and 27 July sees the annual Silverstone Classic event here in the UK.
Whilst a McLaren F1 may not be out on track as it is to new ( ) a certain F1 owner is taking part in one of the many races over the weekend.

Here is an extract from the press release: -

"With an entry that runs to a total of over 700 racing drivers, the Silverstone Classic (25/26/27 July) features many of the most successful drivers in historic racing. The impressive list also includes some very notable names, and the following are among the star drivers in action over the 21-race weekend:

Rowan Atkinson (Ford Falcon in Top Hat Saloons race)"

So we may well see Mr Atkinsons F1, I also know that our very own Mr Bridger was at the event last year and his F1 was parked in the paddock on the Sunday.

I am shooting for an overseas magazine and will be at Silverstone on both Friday and Sunday.

I will try and get some shots if there are any F1's knocking about.

Regards

Tim

If you are taking requests, a shot of Rowan's Chassis Plate would go down wonders on here! .
Knowing the quality of the shots you take, I can't wait to see them.
