Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

Well your LT1 must be well modded to be hitting 12's. A VR4 that is a 2nd gen on up or has a free boost mod can run mid 13 to upper 13's. It has 320hp and 305lb/ft tq. 0-60 in about 4.8 seconds.

it has lot of stuff , heads cams ,ramair, exhaust,to much to list, but gets bad gas mpg and's not the most reliable car, thats why i was interested in a 1st gen vr4 for a daily driver cause there pretty cheap, whats the specs on a first gen

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

If you can drive here's how it'll play out. You all launch, you'll be in the lead off the bat, the 'teg should fall behind right away, the wrx (assuming it's not STI) should fall back to your back wheels right away. You'll gain a car length at about 80, and keep gaining more and more.

Easy win.

Once again, thats if you can drive.

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

vr-4's are not good daily drivers. They may cost less to buy than a gen 2, but maintenence costs are just as much if not more.

its not that theyre unreliable cars...its just that not many people can work on them and parts are expensive.

If you want a good daily driver then just get a Honda Civic, its reliable, gets great mpg, and they are cheap. Just keep your Firebird for the weekends or an occasional drive.

first gens are pretty much identical to 2nd gens. Depending on the year of the 1st gen, you could end up with a cast crankshaft instead of a forged and an 18 spline transmission instead of a 25 spline transmission. As far as power goes, they are identical except for the fact there is a small nipple inside the stock boost solenoid that limits the boost at 9 PSI instead of 11 PSI which are 2nd gen levels. Removing that nipple is known as the free boost mod. That pulls you up from the 1st gen factory rating of 300 hp to the 2nd gen rating of 320 hp.

ive been using my vr4 as my daily and for some track use and no major problems so far. that's not to say that i may not be able to do so for much longer until something expensive breaks :P it's kindof turned me into an automotive hypochondriac, i keep thinking i'm hearing broken parts in my engine that aren' t really there because i'm afraid of paying for them, lol.

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

1st gen specs arae 300hp and aropund 305tq, high 13's to low 14's in 1/4, check the faq, it has them listed for all the different versions and gens.
haha, there's a kid with a 3k sl wants to race my stealth tt, i said not now i dnt have insurance on it(way too expensive, i'm 19). he then calls back and said i'm a bitch and so is my car, i'm to much of a pussy to take a car without insurnace out on the rd. problem is the drag spot is a good 5k from the house. that and it despretly needs its 60k tune up. i hate those attitudes.
but neway, go with a civic or something. hell u can get a mid to late 80's 944 for as little as a first gen 3k, and for equal price of a vr4, u can get a 944 turbo. they r nice cars. the best and closest example of cheap, reliable, and fast.

Doing the free boost mod will put you up to the second gen's 320 hp. It's easy and takes like 5 mins, so there's really no reason someone wtih a first gen wouldn't do this...

no, you misunderstood the adage.

Your car can be 2 of the 3:

Cheap
Reliable
Fast

Exactly. You cant have all 3.

It can be cheap and fast but unreliable.
It can be fast and reliable but not cheap.

reminds me of a local kid in an ES Stealth who wanted to race me when I had my 18T's in. I told him I wasn't going to waste my gas. He was a little pissed. Oh well, what does he know, he drives his car primered and hangs out with all the honda boys.

Re: 1st gen vr4 vs. 91 integra b16 vtec & 06 wrx

hah time to turn the tables, i never said that u could have all three, i know wat it means, but the 944 is an example of all three, it's old enuf that it can b cheap, it's fast for it's time(considering it had a 2.5l 4cyl.) and they are one of the more reliable cars, it can and i know of them hitting well above the 200k mark. yes if u add in part costs and all the other goodies, it isnt cheap, but o well it a porsche. i'm not venik or w/e, and it's really pissing me off. if u would for once read wat i write, in full, not glance u'd finally get wat i'm saying, i dnt care if i'm banned for life on this nemore, cause u people need to figure this type of shit out, it's basic reading. example and closest, means that it's not gonna b exactly all three(for u glancers,3). um, and also explain the kid on this very forum, he went out and bought a vr4 for 800 bucks, got a baterie and it runs. that's cheap around $850, we all know they r relativly quick, and typicly reliable. and me, i wouldnt do that simple little mod for extra power, for a few reasons, we all know the stock guage is a p.o.s, therefor i would buy a new one of those. then i would get my all important 60k tune up, which we all know is very important. then maybe i'd consider it, but i wouldn't go to only 320hp, i'd boost it to 14- and get w/e ends up coming out
