Re: Everex Notebook

I have my experiences with both and will stick with AMD. I got the ad and will be going back in the morning and getting my $200 back.

Re: Everex Notebook

Hello Guys,
I stumbled on this forum in search of information on Everex XT5000T laptop. It is funny how on automotive forum I am asking a computer question, but it seems to be the only place where someone actually owns one !!!
I have a question to the owners, how fast is this computer really. I am not sure if you guys game, I do and was wondering how the benchmark results present themselves. Also of interest is the battery life on this puppy. I m seriously considering picking it up from Office Max this week since the price is almost too good to be true.
I would buy this computer to do a moderate amount of gaming (including some current titles like STALKER and TDU) and a lot of audio work. I am a musician and a composer and have a small studio. A laptop would add greatly to my arsenal of virtual instrument power as well as portability.
I read that this computer has a dedicated 256 MB GF Go7600 vid card and 1 GB of Ram. Could anybody do a Windows performance index for me and give me the numbers ? The destop I have recently purchased has index of 5.0, I would hope that this lappy gets a decent 4.5.
My last question regards the memory is it one stick or two ?
Thank you in advance and once more HI to the members.
DK

Re: Everex Notebook

Don't get a laptop for gaming unless you're going for a multimedia powerhouse. They're not really suited to high end audio work either.

Re: Everex Notebook

Well, like I said, I do have a gaming desktop so this lappy would be for occasional gaming on the road.
As for audio, I have to disagree. True, desktops are a bit more efficient, but I believe that this laptop with dual core CPU + 2GB of Ram and a swap to 7200 rpm SATA drive would handle the moderate audio tasks reasonably well. I do have a professional grade audio interfaces so the in/out capability is no problem.
I just would like to hear some more in depth opinions before I spend $700 on a laptop from the brand I have not heard of before.
Thanks for the reply, though.

Re: Everex Notebook

It is well worth it for $700. It's 256 dedicated. The ram is 1 dimm so you have the other slot open. I haven't gotten any games on here yet or run any benchmarks. It is quite fast however and the screen is great. I believe it scores at 4.4

Re: Everex Notebook

Hello Indyram

Everex is a reputable company and has a record of producing quality products. I have personal knowledge of the XT5000T notebook because I bought one last week. These are my wholly subjective impressions about this notebook:

My needs . . . to have a modestly priced, full featured notebook to use as a backup to my desktop computer when needed and to work off of a battery for short periods when I need a computer while away from home.

For a number of weeks, I personally inspected Acer, Dell, HP and Toshiba models at local shops. Then, I saw an OfficeMax internet advertisement that caught my eye. It was for an Everex XT5000T notebook fully loaded with Vista, a 100GB hard disc, 1GB or ram, Nvidea graphics and a large 17" screen. The notebook also had wireless and bluetooth features

At its modest sale price it seemed to be too good to be true. I accessed the Everex website and read their data and downloaded the user's manual so I could learn more details about this unit.

The Xt5000T appeared to meet my needs so I ordered it for $699 from OfficeMax on April 12. It was delivered the next day, April 13. This was the fastest delivery of any electronic device I have ever ordered from an internet site.

It is now one week later and the notebook has exceeded my every expectation. It IS fully featured, powered by an AMD TurionTM 64 x 2 Mobile 1.6Ghz Processor, has a large screen with clear and highly defined resolution, is easy to use and of equal importance to me, was modestly priced.

The keyboard and mouse are far different than my desktop. No problem, I will simply adapt and learn to use them.

The 1GB of ram was acceptable but I decided to add another GB and bought a Kingston stick from NewEgg and quickly installed it.

I also decided to add a second hard disc. I bought a WD 160GB disc from ZipZoomFly and installed it in the available second bay.

Operationally, the notebook is quite good. It is fast enough, easy to use and visually attractive. I have had no problems accessing the internet through the NetGear router in my computer room.

The only drawback that might be of importance is that the XT5000T has a short battery operating usage period of only about 1-1/2 to 2 hours when in heavy graphic or DVD use mode. There are adjustments that can be made (such as lowering the intensity of the screen, etc.), that will lengthen the operating span of the battery before it needs charging. This has not created a problem for me as I can always operate the notebook using the power cord in an electric outlet when necessary.

IMO, for the money this notebook is simply a super buy. It costs far less than the Dell, HP or Toshiba models that I had inspected; and, it has more features. The fact is true even with the memory and hard disc additions I have subsequently made. As it is presently configured, I have saved between $400 and $1200 by not purchasing a similar notebook made by those brands I previously mentioned.

If I had wanted a laptop/notebook to carry with me each day to work sites, I might have considered to purchase a smaller unit (simply for the ease of transporting it). However, my main purpose, as previously stated, is have a modestly priced, full featured notebook to use as primarily a backup to my desktop computer when needed and secondly, to take a battery operated unit with me when I periodically travel from home. The Everex Xt5000T greatly exceeds this criteria at a very modest price.

I hope that my comments have been of information to you. Good luck with your search.

Question Re: Everex Notebook

Hello I stumbled across this forum on yahoo search looking for information about upgrading the NVIDIA graphics on the Everex XT5000T and I was just wondering if someone here still had theirs and had any graphic problems.
Thank You

Re: Everex Notebook

If you feel the need for an extended warranty, consider SquareTrade. You can usually get a pretty dang good deal on the extended warranty (check for 20-30% off coupon codes online before purchase). I haven't yet had to submit any claims to SquareTrade, but I haven't yet heard anything really bad on them.
