Re: Hit a horse!

Poor horse but it sounds like it will be OK.

I mean it wasn't a thoroughbred race horse was it? Speaking of which shouldn't the owner of the horse have any liability? Why should you use your insurance to cover the repairs.

My insurance will repair the car and get reimbursed from the homeowner's policy. Works for me.

Re: Hit a horse!

My body shop says the insurance company wants to total the car because it has so many miles on it. Ain't going to happen. Looks like a fight may ensue. I'll put a red hood, green fender, blue mirror and a new windshield on it first.

Re: Hit a horse!

What did the body shop come up with on their repair estimate? Sounds like a bunch of horse shit! .....

Funny your '97 GT in my area according to the NADA guides even with that mileage is worth:

Low Retail - $2875
Average Retail - $3925
High Retail - $4775

Of course that is for a non-wrecked.

Re: Hit a horse!

I traded a 97 GP GT 2 weeks ago (Pennsylvania) that had 133K on it, we got $1,800 for it. It was in very good condition.

I've heard of people buying their totaled cars back from their own ins. co., ask them if that's an option. Then you can take the $$ and decide what to fix, etc.

The prob. with repairing it is one day you'll be flying along down the highway and it could throw a shoe...

Body shop estimated by mouth $4-5K
I'm going to stick to my guns and try to make them repair it. Not my fault the neighbor's horses were running loose and a fence that you could step over.

Re: Hit a horse!

Yeah thats a bummer. Was that your insurance company or the neighbor's? If it were my neighbors I'd be going after them even if it means taking them to small claims court. I don't like most of them anyways so no love lost.

I'm not sure about other states like Georgia but in Texas if you are allowed to buy back your car you are stuck with registering it as a salvage vehicle and then you get an annotation of that on the title so that may not be good either.

My neighbors insurance company doesn't want to spend over $4000 or they will total car. In GA, so I'm told by my body shop, that would mean a salvage title and couldn't drive the car for six months. They want to put used parts on the car to keep the price down.
I will talk to my insurance company Monday. This morning they said they could handle it for me. I told them I just wanted my car fixed. It didn't have one dent in it before and the interior was almost spotless.
I will be persistant.

Re: Hit a horse!

Your other option Wally is to go with new CAPA certified parts that way the parts are new. I found CAPA body parts better than OEM and cheaper. But there is nothing wrong with used or pull parts either. Maybe you will all come up with a happy compromise. Tell them since it is a '97 it will be a collector's item one day. Good luck!

Re: Hit a horse!

All new parts and looks like a brand new one. They painted the left front fender also and the bumper cover which was not damaged. Looks great and feels good to be back driving it, not that I don't like the Duramax.
