Re: Another DSM goes for a WALK!!!

You are what you eat right Shpyder...hahaha...

So I guess I really should get in there and make sure for sure that it is like Crunchy said. I was really pissed off at it last night and I didnt even really want to look at it. I would be freakin ridiculously happy if that is the case. But having the clutch hit the floor like that I think is the for sure sign.

I have been looking around at the JDM motors that are available and most are from GVR-4s...there is one website that offers the EVO 3 motor with the yellow 510cc injectors but they want more for that one. I am going to stick with the 6 bolt. Hopefully it wont be too bad of a swap since most of those motors come with most of the needed accessories. I am sure I will replace a few of them just to be safe.

I am not the only person either to have the problem after a fresh rebuild. There are a ton of letters and emails written in to RRE on their website about people who have crankwalked and there was one guy on there that went through 3 motors and all of them walked within like 1000 miles...crazy stuff

Re: Another DSM goes for a WALK!!!

yeah make I'm crossing my fingers it's not walk.

Mine did everything, including clutch falling on left turns and everything. Turned out it wasn't anywhere near walking.

So now my new engine has roughly 3,600 miles on it and still nothing, i checked it before i put the car up for the winter.

I just thought it was a little creepy that Killa called Shpyder a MILF. Weird. Good luck on a fix for the crank-walk-a-thon.

Re: Another DSM goes for a WALK!!!

So today I finally decided to check the endplay on the crank. So I jacked the car up and pulled off the splash shield right there and put a crowbar between the pully and the body and had my friend push the clutch in and holy shit...I couldnt believe how much it moved...I didnt measure it but it was like a 1/4 inch...I pretty much already knew that it was crank walk so its not like I wasnt expecting it...Luckily I called a friend of mine in town that has had a few dsm's and he has a extra 6 bolt short block that he isnt using so he is going to sell it to me for $150....I couldnt believe it...he says he thinks he as a CAS that he can sell to me too....so I got really lucky coming up on all that... So I need a little help too. I have been looking around and have found a lot of write ups but all of them seem to be about doing a full 6 bolt and head swap...I am going to keep my head and so does know of a good write up for doing the block only swap? I already know a lot of the stuff that I have isnt going to fit like my head studs and Rod Bolts so if anyone would be interested in those pm me. There is only 600 miles on them. Also I was thinking of making a video to post on here about how to check for crankwalk. I figured since I have it then it will be easier to show somone how to check it. Then if anyone wants to know if they have crankwalk I think it would be a good referance. What do you guys think?

Re: Another DSM goes for a WALK!!!

Damn dude, that sucks. If you want, I have a plethora of spare 6 bolt shit. I have a full extra head, intake mani, exhaust mani, coil, CAS, ECU (non EPROM), harness (unless Defiancy moves his ass ), tranny, t case, and a bunch of other random shit if you want it, only thing is it'll be beginning of May before I can get at any of it. I think the only things that I dont have is a block and a crank, I think the ones in the purple car are all fucked up from when it spun a bearing. If you want any of it, just shoot me a PM and we can get something worked out.
