Well why not? When I stand near some road and observe cars passing by for a while, I can certainly make out which one is close to the speed limit and which one is fast. The cops have been doing that for quite some time.

Well that's different. I always tell them good afternoon, and ask them why they pulled me over. The question, "do you know how fast you were going" is a total setup. If you say "I don't know", then they tell you. If you give them a number, well you know what happens then.

I got out of a ticket once by telling him "I had my cruise control set on 60, maybe my speedometer is off", then got my speedo calibrated. Dismissed.

In New Jersey, a cop would never stop anyone for going 55 in a 45 zone. I was advised by a cop that they look for cars exceeding +11 or so (unless it's a school zone). You should have been able to get rid of that one easily.

Yea, I know how it works. It seems that cops in VA are worse with those questions. The only time I was pulled over (that was in VA), the cop asked me "Was there a reason to go 84 on 65?". Smart question! The cops in NJ are pretty straight with the words.

He was moving in the opposite direction as I was. He wasnt sitting in a parking lot, otherwise I'm sure he would have clocked me, I was watching for cops in the lots, not on the road.

Ok, will use for future reference then. Thats how Ive been asked 2/3 of my speeding tickets.

It's 5 over around here, i could have ben fine if I was actually doing 50 or so, but I was doing around 65.



I looked into the points system here, never heard anything about it until today when I looked it up.

Any operator who accumulates fifteen (15) points in any twelve (12) consecutive months, or 22 points in any 24 consecutive months is subject to Driver License Suspension.

So I only have 6 points in the last 2 years, so really, I should be fine, I think. 3 speeding tickets, and the unsafe lane change, I think that comes to 6.

That's if you are sure they count under "other moving violations". Let's hope they are. Unsafe lane changing could be sometimes charged with reckless driving though that will be listed as a separate charge. Why don't you make an inquiry for your driving record? The motor vehicle commission sends a letter after each charge has been finalized, as far as I know.

Even still, thats only 6 or 14 of 22 for 24 months. Does it cost anything for that? I was thinking about that earlier because then I would know for sure. What are some of the point systems in other states at?

Yea, looking at some of the traffic lalws here, SD may be one of the better states to live in, especially if you have a car that might not pass emissions. No emissions laws and point system isn't to bad. I see why new york is bad. Interesting.

Bingo! Most states I've seen will let you get away with less than 10 over, but beyond that they're looking for you.

In VA, I've spoke with a State Trooper, who said that they can't write you a ticket unless you're going more than 7 over, and most won't bother until you're more than 10 over.

Personally, I go fast in a plane.
