Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

The metalic black is down and dried enough to post some pics. I can't quite capture how awsome this color is. I took a few pics in the sun and only one captures some of the metalic. I will let it dry for at least 48 hours before I start the BMF. Then I will clear and polish, that is when the metalic will really pop out and the red will become really loud. It should be awsome when it's done. I'm getting a little impatient but need to control myself. I am almost done with the interior and the suspension is almost all painted. I hope to post pics of that later tonight.

Wow interesting colour combo...

Have you done clearcoat OVER BMF before? I've been thinking of trying it in the past to see if it helps seal it in place better, but was worried the BMF would react to it...

I always had a problem polishing my models before because I would always screw up the BMF. So I took a part tree painted it and covered a small part of it with BMF and cleared it. IT WORKED!!! Now I always clear over the BMF, it seals it perfectly and you never have to worry about ripping it off when you polish. I highly recommend it.

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

Well it's been a productive day to say the least. I finished painting the interior. All I need to do is a little BMF and throw a coat of semi gloss clear on and it's done. The only red that I found that was close to the body was gloss so I had to paint the whole thing gloss and use a semi clear coat. I think it looks great with the red and black body.

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

More progress today with the chassis. I got it all finished and mounted the wheels. It took a lot of painting but I think it was all worth it.

One thing I especially like about this kit was the choice it gave you for suspension and ride height. You could choose stock or lowered. Of coarse I went with the lowered. It looks awsome.

I had an issue with the interior. When I sprayed the semi gloss clear, the red ran a bit. I may need to strip it down and start all over. Oh well, s**t happens.

Looking good, love the colour. I always clear over my bmf, seals it in and you dont have to wrry about is coming off when polishing, plus it makes it look more like its part of the model!

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

GOOD NEWS!!! I was able to save the interior without having to srtip it down. Here it is completed. I put the decals on the dash, applied a little BMF to the door panels and a little on the trim on the back floor.

I finished the BMF on the body, on and off for about 4 hours. It's drying right now after three wet coats of clear. I'll post those pics once it's dry enough handle. It's all comming together, almost ready for final assembly.

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

Here are the pics of the finished body. All I need to do is polish it up. I won't do that for a couple more days so that will give me some time to do the final detail painting in the engine compartment. Just a word of advice, if you don't like to BMF then don't get build this kit. I probably spent a total of three hours on it. As you can see, clearing over it doesn't hurt it one bit. I think it actually gives it more of a shine. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. I was originally thinking of a metalic red with the metalic black but I think it's a better contrast with a solid red. I can't wait to polish it up and see that black pop out.

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

I agree, I think the solid red sets of the flakes in the black nicely.

HAH so I'm not the only one

That really does look quite good, excellent contrast. And I'm definitely trying clear-over-BMF on my next build. opcorn:

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

Well she's finally comming together. After a polish and buff, and another polish and buff, I've begun final assembly. I got the interior in and the body on the chassis. Got a little more wiring done on the engine, the only thing left is to put in the washer bottle and connect it to the wiper motor, then the engine bay will be done. The only thing really left to do is the lights and bumpers. The next post will be the completed model.

Re: '56 Chevy Nomad

This may possibly be your best build yet. Fantastic stuff. Can't wait to try BMF under clear myself
