What exactactly do you mean by full duplex? How do I tell which model number to use, bow says wmp54gs, I have the choices of wmp54gs V1.0, or wmp54gs V1.1. Would I want to go with V1.1?

Re: networking...

Don't worry about it, your card will almost certainly already be running at full duplex.

Ok, just for the knowledge though, what is that.

Re: networking...

Full duplex means a device can transmit and receive data simultaneously. Like a telephone, you can talk and hear the other person talking at the same time.

Half duplex means the device cannot transmit while it is receiving, and it cannot receive while it is transmitting. Like a walkie talkie, you can't talk to the other person until they are done talking to you.

It's something you could configure on older wired NICs - probably not even an option for new wireless NICs.

Re: networking...

Ok, I;m sure it is full duplexing because of the propeties deal, I recall learning something about duplexing a few years ago, but don't remember what. Im going to reinstall drivers tonite and try from there.

Re: networking...

I updated the driver, and no luck. It does the same exact thing. Connects eventually, but no internet.

Re: networking...

??? Here's a couple of things to do just to see what happens...

Try power-resetting your DSL modem - make sure the "internet" LED is flashing (it might be called something else on your modem - it's the light that indicates that your modem has a good connection to the internet).

Then make sure that the "activity" LED comes on the modem when you power up your wireless router (again, it might be called something else on your modem. It's the light that indicates a good connection from the DSL modem to your home network).

Call your ISP to see if they can ping your router - they might be able to help troubleshoot.

Does your wireless router have ports to do a wired connection to your PC? If so try connecting via the wire to see if the strength of the wireless signal is the culprit (I don't know why it would be since it was working earlier, but...?).

Re: networking...

OK, I have tried power cycling a few times in the last few weeks (unpluging and replging the router and modem for about 30 seconds), My moms wireless laptop connects fine as does my dads desktop (currently in the shop being repaired, hangs at startup before you log in) that one connected to the router to configure it. I called tech support before this all happened because our internet stopped on all our computer, and The dude told me to fully reset the router. Ever since, my internet and ethernet connection hasn't worked. I don't remember how to do that either, I just know I kinda hated that process.

Edit: The router is a 4 port wireless b linksys router.

Mom and dad's computers connect ok but yours doesn't? Try connecting your PC with a wire, just to see if it works. But if nobody's computer connects I'd guess the problem is at the router - especially since it stopped working right after you reset it. If that's the case I'd say call your ISP to do more troubleshooting - they'll have different things to try depending on if you have a dynamic or a static ip address.

You may have already tried all of this - I'm just suggesting different things to see if it might lead to what the real problem might be.

Re: networking...

Yeah, I was hoping to not have to call tech support, but I may end up doing so. I can never understand indian/mexican tech people, and wind up doing things you dont want like completley reseting the router when you didn't need to. Plus, my parents don't know about the card, hence me not working on this more. But do routers expierence problems every few months? We have had problems with it ever since we bought the stupid thing. I know my pc will connect directly up to it, used to do it that way before I got the wireless card, but its a pain in the but with all my wires to my pc (probly around 30 or so, to much stuff goin through this pc) hauling it upstairs, undoing my dads pc, puting mine in and revers when im done. I was just hoping to avoid that call.

Re: networking...

Ok, my mom called tech support about hers, and I can connect with the windows one, but to the network only. I still can't get online. It says limited or no conection, that was normal because I ave a g card on a b router. But I still get no internet. When I tried ipconfig I got a wierd message for the first part, and no default gateway, but I did get the IP Addres and Subnet Mask.

You're not connected to the network, you have an automatic private IP.

Oh, and

Re: networking...

What would I google? I'm gonna try putting in the default gateway, ip address, and subnet mask in manually.

Re: networking...

I manually put in my ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway, now my ipconfig reads:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address . : 192.x.x.x
Subnet Mask . :255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . :192.x.x.x

I am now completly connected to the network, but still no internet. Is there any way to see if I can see the modem?

Re: networking...

In a command prompt, find the default gateway by running an ipconfig/all. Then type ping 192.16X.XXX.XXX (your default gateway IP).

Copy and past the results here.
