Re: got a motercycle need a favor

The issue isnt with him or the bike or how safe he acts on it, or what he wears. Even though shorts on a bike is just asking for it..The real problem is already on the street. Its a bunch of OTHER idiots, probably on a cell phone not giving proper attention to the road. Most of wich only care about their own safety, sometimes not even that. If one of those hits you it isnt going to matter what gear you was wearing or how safe you thought you was.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

It looks more like he was driving it around the block or something to test it out, I'm sure after fixing it you'd do the same thing...If he was going cross country or what have you, I'm sure he'd be wearing more than a pair of shorts. Quit being party poopers for once and let the kid show off his bike, jeez.

No, I wouldn't and didn't. I spent the day yesterday doing scheduled maintenance and upgrades to my bike (BMW K1200LT) and when I was done I went in and got my leather jacket, jeans, gloves, boots and helmet...THEN took it out to check it.
And I beg to differ. If you are wearing the proper gear and are hit by one of the idiots on the cell or with their head up their ass, your chances of surviving are greatly increased. Without the gear, just name your next of kin and go play Russian Roulette (same thing)

My best friend nick was hit and killed by a careless driver back in 2002. He was on a motor scooter that was lucky to do 25mph down a hill. He was a block from his house when he was hit. Are you sure i would get on a motorcycle unprotected? Or at all for that matter.

Once you see a loved one struggle to survive then later have the plugs pulled due to the trauma you dont even want to look at any kind of vehicle with two wheels and a motor after that. I can still see and hear that entire thing it haunts me daily and i cant do anything to change it. I can still see the hurt faces of his family and friends, and still smell the odor of the funeral home.

If it wasnt for that scooter i would still have my best friend. There i was helping tweak it out, trying to make it go faster and stop better. It got him killed. The guilty feeling about that whole entire thing will never go away, i have to live with it every day of my life. You want to talk about a party pooper? How about a call from ICU telling you to come say your goodbyes.

Re: got a motorcycle need a favor

I wouldn't worry too much about it being stolen bud, no one will even see it seeing as it looks like ya keep it in your bedroom. lol. Nice bike tho, I'd a paid that in a heartbeat. Z1R makes a damn good helmet, I've got a Duke model, its the best money you can spend on something you hope you'll never need...good luck

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

I apologise. Seeing a young face on a motorcycle sparked a protest i guess. I think motorcycles are stupid. Even though ive ridden motorcycles before. With no helmet, just some shades. I had a lot of fun and never got hurt. A few burns on my leg but no real rashing. And im very lucky i didnt. The worst thing that ever happened was i layed one on its side trying to do a wheelie.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

Arai Q4 (or whatever... $300, best rated helmet in 99 when I bought it). Joe Rocket blaster jacket, studded leather gloves, spine protector, steel toed boots, and blue jeans (the weak link in my protective envelope). Never got hot, always got girls, and did stupid shit like blowing between 2 cars going 55 on a highway, me doing about 120. (Yeah I know, don't bother to say anything).

I think everyone is just trying to point out that you never know when something might happen, and it's really no inconvenience to protect yourself,
to not do so is honestly putting your life up for a wager and you don't realize it. I've lost 3 friends on bikes, and had 1 pull through, and had a dear friend get killed on a bicycle. The guys on bikes were all wearing gear and still got messed up, the kid on the bicycle got hit by a car doing 30, never made it to the hopsital.

If a $300 helmet, a $150 jacket, and $50 gloves are too expensive then maybe you shouldn't be on the road, risking your and other lives... A bicycle / skate board helmet won't save you from an insect when it hits you at 30 mph, especially ones that sting or really big ones like grasshoppers, etc. and you could lose control, it ain't hard. I'm sure they told you in your class, riding a bike is like playing at the casino... the house has the odds ALWAYS, you can only improve your chances by taking precaution.

I'll shut up now, I'm sure you're sick of everyone preaching. We like you, and don't want to see you get hurt, as we have seen other friends get hurt. If you're gonna do stupid stuff on it (like I did) at least reduce your chances of dying.

Wind is enough. Eyeballs dont lubricate themselves very well at 60 mph.
