uhhh again...
Once again we have some punk trying to feed people with lies on importing a skyline in the US. I've heard it all, so do me a favor and stop posting bull****! But hey, noone is stopping you, go ahead and import your skyline in the US on your own. Be sure and tell us how your skyline was crushed into a block of metal by customs.
I am in the middle of importing my r33 gtr at the moment. It was stuck at customs for 2 weeks and I'm doing it the right way by going through an RI (MotoRex). If anyone is interested, I am selling it. Email me at [email protected] if you are interested.:flash: Last edited by NISMO23; 09-22-2002 at 12:51 AM. |

ok first off motorex isnt god like some people think and there are other companise who import skylines to but on a smaller scale than motorex. and yeas im importing my own R34 skyline GT-R Vspec and then im going to legalize it my self and i can because the national board of high way safty aproved them so you dont need motorex's crash test data any more! and if for some reason i cant do it i will have my dads friend do it at cost at his company whick will be less than half the motorex cost. so thanx

Also, just because the NHTSA has considered the skyline to meet Federal Theft Prevention Standards, and that is all it meets, doesn't mean shit! The NHTSA has nothing to do with the DOT on crash test standards. The crash test data is privileged data, which means only certain people can get the data, and a person importing a skyline on their own is definatly not one of them. Even if you were able to get a hold of the data, that is just the beginning of the trials you'll face to get the car legalized, i.e. EPA, etc. Basically, you need to wake up and face it that going through motorex to import a skyline into the US for everyday use is the only option (currently).

It is definitely possible to get a Skyline into the US without using MotoRex. Please visit Sun International's web site for more information.
They have done it many times for the Lotus Elise which is a much more diffiecult car to legalize than the Skyline (just the crash test standards are a huge issue for the Elise). If someone disagrees with this point, that is fine, but please don't disagree until you have all the data from Sun International. And this is not about converting to LHD which is meaningless as far as getting it street legal. In general, I tend not to doubt people until I have good reason to do so. GT-R2000 brings valid points to the table, which are worth looking into. Plus, US Customs doesn't just crush cars, we are a civilized society, and there is a process for everything - I know of a JDM Supra that was held by Customs for over a year, and is now being sold by the owner, as they decided not to legalize in the US. Just my 2 cents. Peace, out.

Just FYI, I know a person who attempted to import his 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-t into the US from Japan. He wound up having to ship the car back to Japan at his own expense because he couldn't bring it into compliance. If he didn't ship it back to japan, it would have been destroyed. Listen, my intent in not to discourage you from bringing your future skyline into the US, I am just informing you on the difficulties and expenses that go along with it. My dream also was to bring a skyline into the US and I did it. It is possible, but, will cost you a considerable amount of $$$$.

I don't know of any car even remotely similar to the Lotus Elise, and Sun International has no problem legalizing it and registering it as a kit car.
I think that MotoRex has a monopoly on the Skyline market today, and that very soon there will be many alternatives that will create a pretty large price drop. just my 2 cents.

I don't know the legal definition of a kit car, but Sun International takes a non-street legal Lotus Elise and converts it so that the US Govt. no longer considers it a Lotus Elise. Once the conversion is done, the car can be registered in all 50 states as a kit car, and therefore, does not need to conform to any stringent DOT, NHTSA and EPA requirements - just the basics like lights etc. (kind of similar to the requirements for a motorcycle). The conversion does not detract from the originality of the Lotus Elise driving experience, although several of the internals are different, i.e. different engine.

You can not register a Skyline as a kit car, I beleive it has something to do with the size of the vehicle. I will look into it.

I do not own one today, but its only a matter of time, or should I say a matter of the pound rate
![]() The name, I was in the states when I came up with it. Can I change it? I like Skylines, but I grow up on Fords. I apoligize for my outburst last night, but I can not stand when some people talk out the back of their necks. I will try to be more politically correct if the future.
