Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

A hot soak no start sounds like something electronic, or a sensor.

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

filberts - A few thoughts. > Read the fuel pressure at startup with a fuel pressure gauge connected at the fuel rail. It's the basic step in fuel system troubleshooting. Could reveal a pump or regulator problem. > The Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) helps regulates the air/fuel ratio while idling. It is driven by a small electric motor. Inspect the connector for security and inspect the connectors contacts for corrosion. An IAC failure is supposed to generate a fail code but, that doesn't always happen. This applies to all of the other sensors. > Other sensors to check are the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) sensor, Camshaft Position Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor, Knock Sensor, and Vehicle Speed Sensor. All of these are involved in determining correct fuel/air ratios and timing during any conditions the engine may encounter. Most of these can be tested. Some of these cost $30 or less so shotgunning them won't hit your wallet too hard. Any one of them can create major headaches especially if no code is generated. > Consider cleaning the throttle body. Many swear by a cleaner called SeaFoam. I've never used it but many say it works wonders for cleaning a sticky throttle plate mechanism and cleaning out loads of crud. > I would hope by now you have bought a maintenance manual. When you get into a situation like this it sure helps to have some idea of how all this works so that if you have some maintenance ability you have a guide to follow. If you're not so inclined then at least you will be less likely to get ripped off by some mechanic feeding you a line of bull.

Might help everybody if you list any parts changed and procedures accomplished highlighted in one post. When threads get long like this it's easy to miss something previously stated. Call it a recap. Cheers.

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

(('95 Voy: 3.0L 3spd: 112K miles)) I hope this helps:

I had a similar problem, only the van wouldn't stall after 20 minutes, it would not restart! I rebuilt the alternator with new brushs, rectifier, etc., and replaced my 9 year old battery with a 1000 amp Duralast--most powerful I could find. I checked the ground strap for connectivity and the insulated battery and alternator wires for bareness after installation. Restarts are no longer an issue.
