96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

96 caravan-3.0 engine starts fine and runs normal.when i turn it off and start it 20 minutes later it hesistates and i have to feather the gas pedal for about 15 seconds then it smooths out.I can drive it after that and it runs great.yet i stop and go shopping 25 minutes and it starts right up, yet it hesistates for about 15 seconds and will smooth out and run normal.it seems after it sits for 20 minutes or more it will initually hesistate for a few seconds then it is fine -help

have someone flush the injectors this is common with these engines the best one to use that we found is the sun motor vac or wynn's enviro purge systems make sure they clean the throttle body bore also

Get it on a good engine capable scanner and see if any codes show up.
Past or pending or present.
Watch for lose of fuel pressure and or spark or injector pulse when it does it.
Post back any codes.

Lot of could be or maybe out there.
It needs proper testing to find the problem.
Find a good repair shop and have the check it out
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

So it sounds like the problem may be temperature related. What caused a very similar situation for me was a cracked distributor rotor. Heat soak would open the crack enough to let the rotor move on the shaft. Strangely, letting it run for 15 - 20 sec upon restart would reduce/eliminate the misfire. Must be the rotor would cool just enough to tighen the crack.

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

Is it the engine that won't respond or is it that the engine will respond but the vehicle won't move unless you feather the throttle for a few seconds?

Does The 96 Caravan Have A Rotor Inside The Distributor Cap?i Thought They Did Away With The Rotors In The Early 90s?

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

I'ts Hard To Describe,i Restart It After It Is Sitting 25 Minutes Or More.it Starts Up But When I Step On The Gas Pedal Nothing Happens-the Vehicle Wants To Stall.so I Feather The Gas Pedal Lightly Up And Down And It Sputters But Gradully Starts Moving The Van.then Usally 15 Seconds Of This It Finally Smooths Rite Out And Runs Normal.sometimes I Will Keep It In Park And Rev The Engine Fot 15-20 Seconds Until I Get A Steady Rev Than It Will Take Off Normal, but If You Just Leave In Park And Idle It Will Stall And Idle Very Rough Until You Feather It.

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

Yes, there's a rotor. Pull the cap and take a look. Costs 0 if that's not the problem. Hesitation was caused by the rotor not being in the proper position, causing misfire, shuddering, seeming loss of power. Feathering throttle would get it to move, replacing cap and rotor made it silky smooth again.

Re: 96 caravan stalls after sitting 20 minutes

Have you had codes read? Try Autozone or Advance Auto - they'll do it free. I hate to bring up another forum, but try Allpar.com. There are many gurus there. Sorry my suggestion didn't work for you.
