Re: 240sx engine choices

What's all the fad, the BMW V12 swap? Is there actually a shop that does that? By the way, I hate tokyo drift, it's a faggoty ass movie that has done nothing but make every ricer in the country think they can drift.

I never said that my experiences with ATVs apply to driving on the street. I was simply trying to say that I can handle a little speed and the stock KA isn't enough horsepower.

Everything I've read has said that less displacement = more turbo lag because the engine is not putting out as many exhaust gases and can't spool the turbo as quickly. Assuming the CA18 uses the same garrett t25 as the SR20, I don't see how the CA wouldn't have more turbo lag.

Re: 240sx engine choices

But it's NOT a 68 Camaro. If it was a Camaro or a Mustang or a Chevelle or something like that, I would be jumping all over that, he's thinking more some peice of shit Ford Galaxy or Chevy Corvair. Plus, why would I really want to spend a shitload of money to get a run down muscle car running and spend a second shitload to get enough horsepower to make some 3700 pound frickin' tuna boat to run 14s at very best?

Oh, and xcusememisswyn, how are musclecars not a bandwagon? Plus, your on a 240sx forum and you want me to think your NOT on a bandwagon. I like EJ20 subarus, and 3/S cars, and of course I like muscle cars, but a 240 the cheapest way to get to my goals and so far all anyone can do is treat me like some ricer that dosen't know what he's talking about

Okay, then I'll just stop using the forms until I have my license. I mean after all, if I wanted to be doubted, insulted, and frowned upon by everyone around me, I'd just go to school.

Re: 240sx engine choices

good choice. but you dont have to avoid the forums, just avoid questions like the one you posted. its a question that can be answered by reading the stickies and searching, since its been asked by millions of little wanna be drift kings.

Re: 240sx engine choices

lol, ok some of these guys do assume way to quickly. But anyways, once you get a 240.....you wont have enough cash to do the swap. You'll be spending all your money replacing worn out shitty parts. But in all honesty this question is unanswerable. I mean whats better??? There are all of these motors swapped into 240's where i live. I have not seen one of them be outstandingly better than the other. The rb is only for bragging rights. You can make any one of those engines make power and beat 90% of people on the street. Some take more money to do so.

Finally, something useful. I just need to know which does it for the least amount of money.

Re: 240sx engine choices

probably the SR. unless you know your shit and can piece together a turbo kit for your KA and still make it run reliably, which takes skill in order to avoid costing more than an SR swap. but realize your buying a 14+ year old car. think about it. its almost as old as you. its gonna need a good bit of maintanence before you should even start a swap.

but with the SR, all you need is a small front mount($200-$300), fuel pump(100$), injectors(rebuilt STi injectors are plenty big at 440cc, iirc), and a boost controller($150-$200). after that you can max out your stock turbo and get into the low 14s. just be careful, because making a high horsepower anything isnt just bolt on and go. making it not blow up is 90% the battle.

that statement alone proves why you shouldn get a 240, you need to pay to play and tryin to find the cheapest out leaves your motor blown or your car around a tree...

all assholeishness aside, a muscle car will get you your power goals WAY faster and cheaper than a 240, i see 5.0L stangs goin for under 5000 all the time with the kind of power your lookin for... its gonna cost you up to 10 grand to get where you want with a 240 (plus car), and still be somewhat reliable, and safe, which are the two things that should be more important when ur just startin...

KA-T is the cheapest power, but it is cheap and you have to know what your doing... which you dont

SR20's are nice and can get the power up there, but with a new turbo, injectors, fmic, blah blah blah on top of your swap---=MONEY!

RB, well its to much power, and its more expensive, plus your gonna need suspension and brakes to make up for the power and weight...

Re: 240sx engine choices

Okay, but we all know that muscle cars just don't generally handle as well. End of story.

But now I don't think I'll be completely ruling out the CA18.

I sooooooooooooooooooooooo wish we had an emo smiley icon for this forum.

Seriously man, don't come to a purist forum and act like a dickhead. Bottom line is, experience is king. You're young, we all know that, all everyone is trying to say is don't bite off more than you can chew. Actually get the car first and get used to it like the back of your hand. Once you meet other 240 owners, then you'll gain more experience and knowledge, THEN you can decide what engine is best for your taste. Even though I drive an Eclipse (and not by choice), I still know my way around a S-chassis car through nothing but experience and wrech time. Yea it helps to read up on it and all, but knowing engine chassis codes don't mean shit unless you've actually put your time in.

But since you're looking for good power to weight, obviously you're best bet is going to be a SR or KA. IIRC, the CA is lighter than both, and just because its 1.8litre doesn't make it a shit box. If your chassi was lightened enough and suspension done right, it'd be a killer engine in whatever type of motorsport you're getting into (minus dragging).

We've all been in your spot, and ultimately its your decision on how you want to go about things. But you have to form your own opinions, this very question is asked all the damn time. It isn't hard at all to find the specs, read the numbers, calculate, search for opinions, and do your own thing. But seriously, your 16, take a damn chill pill with all that 1st car being a badass bullshit, if you're paying for it yourself (car or mods), good luck, you'll be saving your lunch money for a long ass time.

I think what a lot of the guys have been meaning to say (and one I believe did say at the beginning of this thread) is that you're getting WAY ahead of yourself here. You have limited driving experience and none (I'm assuming) with the car that you want. It's all well and good that you have access to the funds and contacts to make the car fast, but what everyone is saying is that you need to learn about your car before going all gung-ho and end up trashing the thing. Anyone can get in a car with power drive fast, but a real driver knows about his car and therefore has the respect for his vehicle that it deserves.

I'm obvoiusly waaaay ahead of myself would chill, but there are too many rich preps, jocks and wannabe motorheads that seem hell bent on putting me in my place. Plus, I have enough other problems considering that even a lot of Emo people think I'm too emo. It's just something I feel I need to do for myself.

I'm obviously not going to jump imediately into something as extensive as an engine swap. I'm in love with the S13 and I wouldn't risk fucking it up like that. Unfortuneatly, I'm in Omaha, NE and there aren't too many 240 owners.

An emo smiley would be kickass though.
