You could try it. Even extending the antenna wire might work, but keep in mind that the length of the antenna wire is specifically set for the RF frequency that the system operates in. If you miss duplicating it by even 1/4" it can reduce the range.

If you are going to extend the factory antenna measure it from the circuit board to end, then add that EXACT length.
