Red face

The SVT focus looks pretty cool, but it's kinda slow 0-60 in 7.2, I would rather get a GTI in this price range

7.2 is not slow... look at what other cars in that range run... what does a lude or si run or an integra? similar to say the least...

all the times are best guesses by the mags b/c ford wont let the number come out untill the car goes onsale

however dyno reports are out
SVT focus 170(fy)
147at the wheels 14%loss

where the SE-R SpecV only puts down 141hp but produecs 5more at the flywheel20%loss

I think this car is gonna be very fast for what it is

and Jackson Racing has already made a supercharger for it, flywheel hp for that should be around 230-250

C&D Hot hatch test results, gotta love the SVT

SI= 16.2 @86mph, .84g, 204ft 70-0braking.
SVT= 16.1 @87mph .91G, 170ft 70-0braking.
GTI= 15.3@94mph, .86g, 177ft 70-0braking.

Overall
GTI =third
SI =second
SVT = first

GTI= Lows-Too much torque for the all season tires to handle, rubbery shifter, suffers from some floppy body roll.
Highs- Quickest by far, excellent build quality, richest interior.

SI= Lows-All right, who put these insight tires on our SI? Where's the high revving VTEC fury? Guppy Styling.

High- Shifter looks likee a bent nail but works brilliantly, engine is as smooth as they come, wonderful seats, more stable than your aunt Mabel.

SVT=High-Stellar chasis tuning, appropriately powerful engine, a 6th gear, growling exhaust note, subtly racy apperance.

Low- Noise, vibbration and harshness.

Price
SVTbase-$17,995 topspeed 135mph
SIbase-$19,000 (est) topspeed 125mph
GTI-$19,460 topspeed 131mph(governed)

The SVT sounds like a good deal, but there is one thing that gets me. An open differential on a torquey FWD? Can anybody say inside wheelspin? Isn't it kind of strange that Ford co-develops a sophisticated twin-output shaft transmission with Getrag and leaves out the limited slip? I really wasn't planning on buying an SVT anyway, but I thought about sourcing its transmission. There aren't a lot of FWD 6 Speeds, afterall. Guess I'll stick to Nissan and steal an SE-Rs gearbox.

SVT/Cosworth says the car does not need one and all of the test drivers have had no problems with wheelspin

I'm with you. There are of course many benefits besides just inside wheelspin to a limited slip differential - I should know, as I have a Quaife in my GS-R. I am suspicious that it may be a cost-saving move by Ford; but then again, they have done their homework and put in the hours with their suspension tuning for the SVT, thereby limiting the benefits of using a limited slip unit.

Maybe it really doesn't need one - but I know I'd certainly like one anyway.

in a recent scc issue, they installed a quaife in the focus they have, and it only cost 600 dollars, since the lsd is an option in europe now. so it is designed as a factory part... you may want to check out the issue, it is the one with the silvia wannabe on the cover... may or june i think

16.1? wow

The nissan spec V is a joke. It has been tested consistantly to put down anywhere from 130 something to 140 hp which is indicative of a car rated at 160-165. Nissan is gonna have to do better than that if they wanna step up to the plate. I do like that ford and Nissan are trying. its kinda cute:finger:

I guess i shouldnt generalize that statement. I like the SVT focus, and i think it will do wonders for Ford.

Another car that will be quite formidable will be the new Neon SRT4
I hate the looks of this car. It looks like a little yellow joke about imports, but it has 205hp, and a 5.9 sec 0-60. makes me wanna puke, looking at it though
