Re: WIP - Customer's 1970 Mustang Grande

Well I think I FINALLY have the body work figured out... the panel line around the front fascia/headlights is accurate, the c-pillar is smooth, and the trunklid has been cut out.

Unfortunately, in the process of all this priming and sanding, the "Mustang" fender scripts and the front marker lights are virtually invisible now ... I'm not sure what to do. There is no photo-etch kit for the '69-70 Mustang... I found a great decal for the "Mustang" script along the trunk, so that's a start... Maybe I'll make decals for the side marker lights and Mustang scripts... anyone else got any suggestions?

Re: WIP - Customer's 1970 Mustang Grande

Interior is basically done. Please ignore the crappy paint on the center console, it was an idea I had that went wrong--I'll be repainting it. I need to figure out how to duplicate the shifter, since the real life one has the slotted base with PRND21 on it, and the model has none of that.

Interior is Vermillion Red, the gauges were detailed with art pencils, the steering wheel is from a Camaro (every Mustang I've ever seen except this one has a 3 spoke wheel), the seatbelts are masking tape with Detail Master photo-etch seatbelt hardware (the rear seatbelts are from a kit.) Hard to see in the pics but I also fashioned the door lever and window rollers out of styrene rod and flat pieces, since the etched-in detail provided in the kit is very poor. The carpet is baby wipe material painted flat black.

Oh, and the customer also made it clear to me that his car is NOT a Grande, just a regular Coupe. We're just using the Grande kit since it's the only one around that isn't a fastback. No worries though, as I was using his pictures for reference. Painting the body is up next!

Maybe a Keith Marks decal set for the '70 Mach I??? Sure you will be left with some extra decals, but is that really a bad thing?

This is coming along nicely since I last looked. It looked like a nightmare when I first saw it. Your doing a great job, looking forward to seeing it complete.

Fascinating suggestion, I remember hearing his name before but I haven't seen any of his work. I've been scouring ebay regularly for the decals, but have found none. But looking at Keith Mark's fotki.com profile, I agree, the '70 Mach 1 decals would work PERFECTLY. I just need to figure out how to contact him now.

Nice work with the seat belts. I really dont see any problems with the center console thou. The interior looks pretty good to me, actually.

Re: WIP - Customer's 1970 Mustang Grande

if you have a newer revell 'stang on your shelf, why not foil cast the emblems you are missing? just lay some (non adhesive type) foil over it and tape it down so it won't move, press a pencil eraser onto it pretty hard to get the basic shape, then pic out the details with a toothpick (lightly, foil breaks rather easily). now you have a exact duplicate that just needs to be filled from the back with some super glue, and sanded back down 'till just the emblem remains. plus, it's already chromed, so a quick blackwash, or detail colors, and bamo! you have new emblems.

this trick also works well if you have very thin scripts on your kit to start with, just foil cast the emblems/trim/doorhandles/whatever, sand them off of the kit, and paint as normal, and you'll have your emblems ready to put back on when you're done

Not at all a bad idea, except that there is no current Mustang with the same scripts .... The Mach 1 has Mach 1 decals, the Boss 429 has Boss 429 decals, etc etc...

but do they not have a "mustang" emblem, and say mustang on the rear deck? what else do you need?

They don't have the fender scripts, which was what ended up being worn off. It's in a cursive style, and it just says "Mustang", not Mach 1 or Boss, or whatever. And it's unique to this year--the '64-66 is different, as is the 67.
