Re: WIP Truck... Yes Or No?
Quote:
Icon Modeler, no one says that truck modelers can be discriminated. No one should be discriminated, and no one disagrees with that. But the flip side of it is that no one should be privileged either, don't you think so? You might not know, but AF used to be a giant community without any sub-forums. Think of it as New York, a big melting pot of all kinds of people. It didn't matter what subject you liked, or how good of a modeler you were. The diversity created an welcoming atmosphere, which resulted in the fastest growing online modeling community. Then WIP sub forum was created because the majority of people agreed with such split, and the board became more organized than before. The next was Motorsports, which I openly criticized it for shortsightedness (and many other reasons, even though I'm an avid race car modeler), but anyway the split was done. After that, it was just a matter of time--creation of Muscle/Hot Rod and Motorbikes sub forums--and now we're discussing Trucks. In my opinion, each individual is unique, and each has a favorite subject or two, but living in a part of community (whether online or off line) means that we all have to compromise. While I see the pain of the truck modelers, it can be reduced by using subscription and search functions, as well as web-browsers' ctrl+f and bookmarks. Whether it's easy or difficult to navigate is an individual level of problem, not organizational. Usually, you don't apply an organizational solution like creating a sub forum to solve such problem. Having said that, separating cars and trucks make more sense than separating muscle cars from other cars, so if the majority wants a truck forum, I guess that's the way it should be (though I still don't like the idea.) If not, well...I'm sorry, but the truck modelers have to put up with some inconvenience, but keep in mind that it's not because truck modelers are discriminated. Everyone (except for the motorsports, muscle/hot rods and moborbike modelers) are compromising. Every time a new sub forum is added, I see the AF loosing its openness, diversity and uniqueness, looking like the more organized Scale Auto. That continues bothering me... |

Re: WIP Truck... Yes Or No?
I agree with Hiro on this one. I don't care for race cars or bikes all that much, so I don't go into the those forums, but look at all the detailed builds I miss because of it. but I DO see the use in having a truck forum. maybe labeling it as a comercial/truck/heavy equipment forum. I have several friends that never came to A/F due to the fact that it was all imports and sports. they build hotrods, and race cars. now that there are supporting forums, they are on here all the time, though I don't think they ever post. they love it though.
I think it'd be great if we could get some of the big rig modelers on here, I LOVE seeing their builds, and the extent of some of their details on their trucks. in short, a truck/comercial vehicle/heavy equipment forum would be justified. however, most PICKUP trucks can be categorized by any of the existing forums. race, hotrod, street. but then there are comercial CARS. I see lots of cars around town with logos on their doors and equipment in their backseats, and trunks. would those still be labeled as street? really I guess each individual is resposible for putting their builds in the appropriate forum, and if it's obviously mistakenly placed in the wrong forum, then move it, and leave the ghost in the forum so people can see that it was moved.

Re: WIP Truck... Yes Or No?
Come on guys!!Of course a Commercial/Truck forum is "justified" just in the way that the Muscle, Bike, Street and MS sub-forums are. The relevant question still remains IMO the same though - "What the heck for???" Please someone, apply Occam's Razor before we go ape with Drifter, Dub and Municipal Vechicle forums!!

Re: WIP Truck... Yes Or No?
Well, I say yes. And would be happy to post my first WIP there, since I'm now working on the Italeri Mercedes-Benz Actros Megaspace. And I also have other trucks in the "to do" pile.
