Re: WIP Benetton B192

hi, great detail work and love the engine. its unlucky about the bleeding on the monoque. however, after seeing billypee's post about clearcoating, i've just had a brain wave. after laying down the masking tape, why don't you clearcoat over the tape. it would seal the tape, and any bleeding of the clearcoat under the tape would be invieable under the final clearcoat.

Sounds like a great idea. If anyone has tried this, let me know what it comes out like. The only downside I can see it that your body colour paint would then be sitting on top of clear and not primer. Don't know whether that would make too much difference though.

Re: WIP Benetton B192

I have made some progress I finish painting the yellow on the rear cowl, side air intakes and rear body work. Next I will mask off the body to get ready to paint the green.

Dave

Re: WIP Benetton B192

Looking good. I don't envy your masking job as I notice this colour scheme doesn't have a convenient white pinstripe to cover up any wobbles.

Re: WIP Benetton B192

Here is an update don't want the thread to die I finished painting the nose cone, front wing, and front upper and lower arms. I have decaled the nose cone I am very happy with the way it came out.

Here are the wheels these gave me a fit the first three yellow decals went on fine the forth wrinkled. I also managed to trash one Good Year decal so one wheel not going to have one and I broke another.

Thanks for looking
Dave

Wheels and tyres look great, those decals can be a right pain. Love the nose cone, looks great.

Re: WIP Benetton B192

Hi Dave, it all looks fabulous, paintwork, decals everything.

You will find that some tyre decals will perish on every build. You can get replacements from F1 Specialties very cheaply <$10 for a set... or you can just take them from your next model (just remember that the yellow decals are from 1993 onwards so are for the thinner tyres).

All the best,
BillyPee

Thanks Dave. This is one of those models I'd really like to build (the Williams FW13B is another) but the colour scheme puts me off.Not the colours themselves but the thought of masking it up knowing there is no room for error. You sure have made a nice job of it though. You just may have tempted me into getting the kit myself.I think it has just been re-issued.

Steve if you can mask the McLaren you can mask these. The only reason I am building the Williams is because my son bought it. The color scheme for the FW13B has been troubling me plus this is only my second model and because of this forum and people like yourself and others here you know who you are, That I am even considering building the FW13B so go for it .

Dave
