Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

Last days I worked on the fenders etc. Painted it al gloss black.

Bikestand:

I also worked on the gearbox and chain. The gearbox was painted in metall cote Polished steel. When this paint is dry you can polish it with a cloth. Really nice shine The chain was painted black and is rubbed whith the same cloth I used for the gearbox, so a silver (used look) wash become on the chain. I also installed the plates where the gearbox is fitted in, and gave them a wash.

Dryfitted in the frame and look:

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

First I painted the rear link. I dryfitted them:

I also painted the oil tank in Silver Leaf and put the decals on it.

The fuel tank also got his silver jacket and his decals and is waiting to be clearcoated.

I clearcoated the fenders and polished them:

And clearcoated the numbershields and polished them

I really love the shine

Great work.I really like these older motorcycles a lot and you are certainly doing this build justice. The tank, front mudguard and number boards look stunning.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

After some examinations on school, I worked farther on the bike

First thing I did was paint the seat and made the red striping on it. I made this with some red electricwire.

After this I painted the chainprotector and polished it. And also added 2 real bolts instead of the molded bolts.

I installed the windshield and arms to fit

I also clearcoated the 2 tanks with TS-13 Clear. And polished them

Oiltank with cap

Also polished and clearcoated the fuel tank and added the cap.
BMF was placed before clearcoating btw....

I think it's really shiny

Kris.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

I have this bike in my 'to do' pile - looking to do a Barry Sheene version (). This biuld is looking superb - it's really helping me to understand how to make the best of the kit. Nice.opcorn:

Last days I painted some parts.

I added the engine into the frame. Put the oiltank on his place and placed the rearmudguard and seat.

I also painted the other chain and placed it.

Watch the pics:

and a dryfit with the fueltank

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

No comments at all? Where are the old bike lovers on AF?

I did some work last days....and guess what?

It's almost finished now!

I started to paint the handles. I put a rubber tube on it and paint it flat black.

Than I painted and built the tachometer:

After that I build the frontfork. It was supposed to be working but mine didn't work. No problem for me btw.
I also have removed the moldinglines but the need te be covered with some paint....

And than it was time to the most lovely work Install the rearwheel.
I also added the shiftmechanism, mudguard, chain and many more parts.

See for yourself!

After this I detailed the exhaust. I painted it metallic blue and than I used clear orange. Finished it with some smoke and you got the perfect heated exhaust (I really love this detail)

I hope you enjoy this build as I do. The fittment is not good at all. The engine is a pain in the ass the fitt right and also the wire and tubes are really bad to fitt. But I think this is one of the most good things about modelling: to make something beautifull from a bad kit like this.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

I can sympathise with you Kris, I've just finished mine a couple of months ago.

You're really putting in the details and I love what you did with the exhaust pipe. Tell me, did your wheels spokes suffer from mould shift because mine requiered a major cleanup while your's look great.

Can someone tell us who made these kits originally, my guess is Protar.
I'll be starting the Vincent Black Shadow soon, that too is an older kit but still looks great.

Thanks!

The wheels spokes are a bit to big but I resized them a little bit and removed some flash. Than I painted them in Motip chrome.

Originally this kit is made by protar and Italeri and Revell re-released them.
After this one I make some other models but I'm sure there will be more oldtimers in the future to come. Maybe a Vincent Black Shadow to

Kris.
