You can shut the exhaust down to stock size so that it's muffled and you have less reason to get pulled over. You mentioned something about being distraught from financial woes. Maybe that will help? Think about it. Is it worth putting a little more money out to keep away from more tickets and run in's with your favorite local law authority?
I've seen something that does this. Its made by APC or something liek that. Just look through the ads in Super Street. Its an adjustable exhaust tone/silencer device. From the looks of the pics its somewhat or a butterfly vavle.

This is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. Even if you get one, is there like a button you can hit from inside the car to silence it?

Plus, the cop may decide to pull you over anyway if you shut it down when you cruise by him cause it is an admission of guilt (such as braking suddenly when you pass a speed trap)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like most of those stops aren't "bullshit", they're stupidity or accidental on your part. Either of which is a perfect reason for an officer to stop you...
LOL, I guess you are right, actually those are ALL the times I have been pulled over, I still believe the below times were just to hassle me.

Exhaust too loud
Brake light was orange
No Windsheild

Whats suprising is how often I was hassled in a "classic" car and how I am not bothered in the civic. I would think it would be the other way around.

I never said it wasnt stupid and i think there is a knob or switch inside the car to adjust it.

No.. it's not. The only thing worth putting a little more money or effort into is keeping our freedom. Having a loud exhaust isn't hurting anyone.

The times I have been pulled over, I deserved it...

#1: Driving my moms '88 Accord up the last hill before the turn for my school... going 70 in a 45, come over the hill and see a cop, smash the brakes, he clocks me at 61 and lets me off because I guess he knew my dad and had to go somewhere

#2: Driving around town in my moms accord, apparently I ran a red light... I didnt see it, cop pulls up next to me at the next red light, asked if i saw it, then asked if i was "OK" when i said no... let me off

#3 Late for work, driving the Z... came around a corner going 90-100 in a 55 mph zone... saw a car, wondered why it was parked way far down the road at 6am, get closer and notice its a cop, lock up the brakes (right rear locked up and the rear end slid sideways a tiny bit ) Cop gives me a ticket for 92 in a 55

#4 Coming home from school in the Z, five days after the above ticket, see a cop, stomp the brakes, he turns around... gives me a ticket for 79 in a 55

#5 Crusin around after work, pulled up next to a 3000gt sl in a left turn lane, raced him once we both made the turn (he pulled on me a bit )... about 5 mins down the road after the 3000gt had turned off, a cop blips his siren behind me, tries to give me a ticket for racing a "black sedan" I insist i wasn't racing, he lets me go...

I would say the cops have been fair to me, the guys that let me off were decent guys, ones that gave me tickets were dicks...

Sure it isn't when you're driving on the freeway...but I had a neighbor with a loud exhaust who left for work at 7 every morning (and I was working swing-shift) and he would rev his engine for what seemed like 30 minutes every morning, just to make sure the whole damned apartment complex knew how manly he was. If I knew which car it was (and I wasn't so darned moral), believe me he would have had Karo in his friggin gas tank because I didn't sleep for the 8 months he lived near me.

Are you dead? Why didn't you go down and ask him nicely to stop? You'd think after 8 months, one might do that. There's a difference between having a loud exhaust, and having a loud exhaust & being a dick with it. I'm not trying to be an asshole, just trying to defend my earlier post.

Well, actually, after sleeping after only 3 hours I really am dead. (It's like being awakened at 2 or 3 a.m. for you normal-shift people.) It was the kind of thing where he'd wake me enough really disturb my sleep and peeve me, but not to the point where I was capable of putting clothes on (sleeping naked because it's 116 darn degrees here in summer) and going to complain at him because I am a zombie when I haven't been awake for at least 1/2 hour. And I can perfectly well see the reasons and advantages of having a larger noisier exhaust, but why not have a dual mode one, that you can turn down when you're in a neighborhood or police-heavy area, and turn back up when you need the airflow and studliness?

I can see the reason to get a silencer if it disturbs people, but not for the sake of the cops bullying you. Stand up for yourself. I'm not an activist, but damn... if this keeps up...

I never saw it anywhere in the rule book that it was illegal to customize your car!

I've never seen a Harley pulled for loud exhaust. Down here in the south we have a ton of em.

It's pure profiling there to pull over an import and not a Harley. Motorcylces race too.

But I admit that everything I have been ticketed for I did.

1. Speeding 45 in a 25(school zone) pulled by officer Christmas. He had a nice $55 and 2 point ticket for me. I didn't know the school was letting out. Usually its 35mph.

2. Speeding 85 in a 55 while cutting of an undercover narcotics cop. Or so he claimed. But I was speeding in my red Trans Am. He called one of his friends to the scene to ticket me. Careless Driving $275. They never showed up in court so it was thrown out.

3. Coming across a bridge going 70 in a 40. I saw a car zoom up on me from behind so I slammed on the breaks. It was a cop. So i decided to fuck with him. At each light I would shoot off the line in front of him and then let him catch up. Yes I was asking for it so I'm not saying I didn't deserve what was coming to me. Then I had to change lanes well I forgot to signal and he pulled me. He had me get out of the car while he searched me and my car. Then he let me go.

4. Pulled a month later for racing a mustang 5.0 on the same bridge we hit 95 in that 40. Someone called the cops on us when we did a drag at the light at the bottom of the bridge. The mustang had already turned off so the cop pulled me as I turned into Taco Bell. He searched my car and asked while I was racing so of course I played stupid and he let me go. It must have been The Border Patrol!!!! lol i kill myself.

I deserved everything listed above except the next one......

Pulled for sitting in a parking lot at the local pool hall waiting for some friends. The cops checked my license and searched my car. Total BS! But no harm done.

I agree, in the mornings I let the car run, but I dont sit there revving it, and after about a minute of letting it warm up, I go and keep it at low rpm's for the neighborhood. My exhaust is loud, but my 73 MG was louder and nobody ever bitched me out about that, but people have talked to me in the civic, if that isnt profiling I dunno what is.

I dunno guys...I have to agree that I think exhaust too loud tickects are some TRASH! And maybe it is profiling, b/c I've NEVER been pulled for an exhaust too loud violation...And with a rather large cam, headwork, longtube headers, straight pipe in place of the cats, and the SLP Loudmouth exhaust(the loudest exhaust made for an LT1, it has NO muffler!), I'm pretty positive my car is about 10 times LOUDER than anyone's on this board! All I get from police are compliments on how good it sounds...Imagine that...Either way though, I think those tickets are BS.

Jeez, thats profiling for sure. The main problem is too many imports sound like bumble bees on crack and that is the reason people hate on them, even the ones that sound good.

Harleys are hella loud though, how come nobody ever bags them?

Also, people modding V6 camaro's is getting played, those things sound shittier than ANY import with an exhaust

heh, I was with my brother once when he got a warning for stealing cars. Keep in mind, that we were driving a bone stock Civic ex, and there were 2 BMW's parked next door to our house. Here's what happened:

Me and my bro were headed out to Blockbuster to rent something, I forget what. So we pull out of our driveway and get halfway down our street and my brother pulls over to the side of the street to check if he has any money. he doesn't, but I had like $10 or so on me. He pulls out and we start driving again. We turn right and almost as soon as we turned the corner, BAM, red flashing lights everywhere. My bro pulls over and the cop comes up and asks for his license and registration. So I'm in the passenger seat digging through the glovebox looking for the insurance card, but I can't find it. We are just around the corner from my house, so I say, I'll be right back, I'm gonna go ask my mom where the card is. Then my bro remembered that the card is in an envelope in between the seats. So he gives the cop the card, the cop walks back to his car. While he's in his car, me and my bro are like, wtf did we do? The cop comes back, gives my bro back all his stuff and says, "Do you have any idea why I pulled you over?" My bro said, "Nope, no idea at all." (the best way to get out of most tickets is to be honest, really, unless its a street racing ticket) Then the cop said, "Well, back there, you pulled out, started down the street, then pulled over, then went again. You also didn't have your lights on. I thought that you stole the car, so I pulled you over." My bro was laughing now and said, "You mean you thought I stole this thing?" The cop was almost speechless now and didn't know what to say. He eventually stammered out, "Yeah, but your license checks out with your insurance, so, ummmm. I'll let you get off with a warning, don't do it again." And the cop walked away. We couldn't help but just burst out laughing at the fact that he got a warning for stealing a car.
