what do you guys think I have with my fwd setup?

I'm going to the track tomorrow, wednesdays they have open track, and im gonna run a couple times and see what happens. my problem is that i cant launch to save my life. Either i bog down too much or I peel out too much, or worse yet I ride the clutch for about 20 feet.
my Tsi is FWD, and I walk on the Camaros (it was on interstate, he just couldn't keep up)... and the Sti I wasn't really walking on... it was a crawl at first, then he started to get away from me a little, but I can hang with him

and whp is all that's worth talking about really.

Also, you can't judge 1/4 times by 1/8 times. It just doesn't work that well. The higher gears have a lot more load on the engine and it is MUCH MUCH more likely you will have timing / knock problems up top rather than just the 1/8
I haven't actually seen any knock... my AFC shows it's all clear, but then again I don't have a datalogger... those times are just from a 1/8 to 1/4 calculator... they're pretty generic... but a decent place to start when looking at possible 1/4 times...
there are no local 1/4 mile tracks...

Re: My HP estimation

With my spyder for sale, every single caller asked "how many HP are you putting down?" and "what is your 1/4?". I strictly stayed away from speculating, or extrapolating, due to the reasons many have already mentioned in this thread, and simply replied "more than 210 hp" and "faster than a stock GS-T Spyder" respectively.

With so many variants to take into account (driver ability, traction, boost, leaks, set-up, tuning, altitude, octane, etc), guesstimating figures can be way off than what reality may hold. You could be running a ton of boost with a huge turbo, and still be putting down something like only 230 hp.... several members can give testimoney to how bad tuning can lead to unexpectedly low hp gains, as compared to what the gains looked like on paper. This is why we usually frown on bench-racing (will my car beat my friend's car?) and what I call "on-line dynos" (I have X,X,X mods, what is my hp and 1/4 mile?).

true... I didn't mean to start anything... I was just kinda looking to see where I sat... I am still learning to drive this car... as the transmission is way different than the piece in the RS I had...

I'll let you guys know something when I get some solid numbers... I just wanna know if it's even worth the trip (~60 miles) to the dyno... I think I'll wait until I have a datalogger and possibly a 16G... maybe I'll get dyno's on both turbos...
lol, then I could pull up and flash the lower graph and talk smack... line up a race, then tell them that was before the turbo upgrade... lol

Re: My HP estimation

Dyno runs are expensive...$100 a pop here in San Diego, CA. I would say hold on until you upgrade and tune further.

I think I can get an hour (unlimited runs/tuning) for $150... that includes a wideband 02 in the tailpipe and hooking it to tuning computers/datalogging...

Re: My HP estimation

You really should have the wideband closer to the middle of the downpipe... I don't think its near as accurate if its clear in the back... Also, you really should have the datalogger to tune with the afc. How else are you reading knock and such to tune without one?

Re: My HP estimation

I'm not sure where they really put the o2 sensor... I can't even find the site that had the dyno info on it anymore... and I can't member for the life of me whom it was...

Really? Wow. The local dyno guy here said $100 a pop. When I asked about the $40-$60 runs, he said those were special prices at events only. Hmph. Shouldve gotten the spyder dynoed just for the heck of it.

Well, if you wouldn't mind... find me a shop in NC (close to Rocky Mount, or Wilson) to get my car dyno'ed...
