Re: wow, damn cavaliers

coming from a slow car owner....

the whole purpose of the street racing section is for everyone to contribute races....

i don't care if it's a kia rio and a geo metro bone stock racing.... it's still street racing and it counts...

hell i wanna meet those two guys and shake their hands and ask them how they got their cars to go faster than 38 mph!

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

wait, wait, wait.........keep waiting........okay.....what would you guys consider a slow car, a quick car, and a fast car? And would your opinions be biased on 1/4 times or does course times matter to you? Ex : when we went to the AutoX for the first time, my jetta was stock and would easily get beat by some of the cars there, but I managed to get 3rd in my class and pulled a 36 place overall out of 140something, would you consider my jetta fast based on that?

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

i think the "slow and fast car" theory is very biased because you compare to the cars you have owned/driven the quarter mile is one of the more non-biased ways to compare whats "fast" and whats "slow" my car runs a low-mid 16s so a car running low 15s is pretty quick to me, and a car in the 14s is fast. On the other hand, alot of you guys are running 14s and 13s stock...so 15s to you is slow

Yeah it's all relative.

I'd say anything under 13s is fast, 13-15s is quick and anything above that is economical hehehe

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

12's are decent
11's are fast
10's are getting excessive for a street car.

^^^^ wow you guys answered my question with a "yes we are biased towards 1/4 times, nothing else matters to us but straight lines, we don't care about any other performance aspect that would qualify a car as fast except for a 1/4 time"

Re: wow, damn cavaliers

It depends. Something can be fast in the 1/4 the 1/8 in about a bagillion different kinds of track times. A car may be slow off the line but screams on the highway. So many different ways to measure fast.

Well, yes and no.

I wouldn't say i'm biased towards 1/4mile times, but 1/4 mile is very important in measuring acceleration which is extremely important in any type of racing.

I said i think less than 13s is fast becuase once a car can reach that kind of acceleration, it will be very fast on a track.

To me, how fast I can drive my car is most important. Since there are millions of speed cameras, what is important to is how fast i can go through some country roads, hence I got a rally car.

See, I used to think this exact same thing, but then I cam to a realization...

How many times do you see people pulling Need For Speed Underground on the streets? I mean, lets be completely 100% honest, when was the last time you did a circut race on the streets, in traffic, ignoring stoplights and stuff like that? Yes, I know that touge or downhill drift or what the fuck ever is slowly starting to come into its own in certain areas of the US, and my understanding is that the new Need For Speed (Carbon) is gonna be following a general idea of downhill racing/drifting, but lets again be honest, when it comes to street racing, the only thing that really does matter is acceleration.

Now, when we all race on the street, which is the majority of our racing...we are doing it in a straight line, be it from a dig or a roll. Yes, every now and then someone here does do a race where they slowly pull away in a turn or something, but its on the highway with a bank.

So, for a street car that is to be raced on the street, I am biased towards 1/4 mile and acceleration times. However, I think what makes a street car fast on the street is different on the track. A car that is going to be raced on the track will be differently fast than a car raced on the street, and even then there is difference in track and street. For example, everyone here would agree that a Suzuki Hayabusa or Kawasaki ZX-14, when launched right, is gonna rip up a hell of a 1/4 mile. But how often do we hear of big single turbo cars just walking the shit outa a bike from a roll? Hell, some will out run the bikes from a dig. But those bikes and cars would get eaten alive around a road track, but on a straigh track, the car set up for twisties might not do as well. Its all relative. A Lotus Elise or Exige will tear the shit outa a road track or autoX course. But line it up next to a big single turbo Supra or 'Vette or a good number of other cars...and the Lotus will most likely get destroyed. Again, its really all relative.
