what??? are you joking? seriously, dude, you need to do more research adn just look around. they are everywhere. look on ebay. autotrader.com. call the local junkyards, salvage yards. 3si.org. if you know where to look, you could find a donor vr4 very easily.

Re: Need to get more horsepower for my N/A

^^ Ebay has had a VR4 front clip (everything from the firewall to the front bumper) for sale for quite some time now. You should check it out. I think it was about $2,800.

Re: Need to get more horsepower for my N/A

in order to help you along in your research, i ran across this webpage of a guy on 3si (user |4x4 NV|) who did the TT conversion. pay attention to his price list. he got a tt engine for 500 bucks! see, that's the deal you have to be patient and wait for. if you can get a TT engine for that price, then simply pull all the turbo parts off you need (almost everything BUT the block and heads). you'll save a ton right there. i bet that engine he bought had rod knock or had already blown a piston/rod.

Re: Need to get more horsepower for my N/A

TT conversion looks good on paper, but unless you can do all the work yourself dont expect it to be cheap. Also, unless your car is in excellent mechanical condition I wouldnt even think about doing it. Do the maintenance first, check your compression and go from there. There are a ton of hidden things that need to be done when doing the TT conversion. Its not just find the VR4 front clip and your set. You really need at least an LSD insert, a SAFCII would be good, aftermarket gauges, clutch, maybe new motor mounts, TT ECU and wiring harness, datalogger would be good. etc etc etc. the list goes on and on.
For me, I realized there was no cheap way to do it so I might as well do EVERYTHING I could while the motor was out of the car. And I have put a good 6000 miles on the car since and it still runs like a champ. Still worried the tranny wont hold up much longer but when that goes then I will just upgrade that too.
I probably got a good 12k into my TT conversion including the labor.

Re: Need to get more horsepower for my N/A

^seriously. a TT conversion can be done for around 2,000, if you get a good deal on a donor car.

ZEISS--->you said you're worried about your tranny going? you have a LSD insert, right? i've heard that the LSD inserts destroy the differential or just stop working (destroy themselves) after 10k-20k miles, whether or not your FI. also, the 2nd gear in the NA tranny is weak. so when you go to upgrade your tranny, are you simply gonna put in a Quaife LSD (quaife is best, better than Kaze and Kormex) or just get a AWD 5 spd?

Re: Need to get more horsepower for my N/A

The best idea is to get a AWD 5 speed tranny and a LSD.

Re: Need to get more horsepower for my N/A

I was able to find a complete donor car for $2500.00 and used it for the conversion. You will need to upgrade to at least urethane motor mount inserts, and an LSD. I have been running the insert, and it is already shot. So I would save for a true LSD "quaife" its somewhere around $900.00 but will be well worth it. If you have someone that knows what they are doing to help you to save on labor costs, you could do it for the $4000.00. It would be tight, as there will always be little things you need, and they do add up.

An Safc is not a must, I ran "rich" without one for the better part of a year on mine, but now I have one and realy wish I had bought it sooner. Also you absoultly need a way to monitor the tune of the car. If you dont have a way to monitor knock you will eventually destroy the motor. I use a Scanmaster 3, and have been very happy with it.

If your patient, you can find the right donor car. After parting out my donor I made more than the cost of it back. It took a while and was a royal paint in the neck though. For me after all is said and done, I couldnt be happier with the conversion. Mine has been running great for about 20k.
