Re: 4th gen HB Si

Damn if that thing is as clean as it looks then thats a steal. Is the body straight? Get it running, paint the moldings, sell it and make a crazy profit or keep the mofo.

I value a fourth gen with a straight body and clean shell more than if it runs or not, getting a car to run is a lot easier than fixing dents, accidental damage, and worst of all, rust.

Re: 4th gen HB Si

body is straight just a little surface rust and dent right behind the passenger door. just needs some touching up on the exterior with some black paint. i ordered a gasket set last night so it should be here sometime soon but me and my buddy are gonna start rippin it apart today to see if anything got damaged when the head gasket blew. it made a clinking sound when it was in gear but i think its either the synchro or clutch cuz that thing is gone! ive got my old tranny, clutch, and head parts waitin to go on so hopefully itll be runnin here in a few weeks

Re: 4th gen HB Si

alright went out to the parents and took some pics, vacuumed a little, and started strippin the head to change the gasket. ill get to washing the outside after i get it running, but ill probly detail the interior on a rainy day or somethin.

before we started surgery, notice the oil on the driverside firewall.
i found out the hatch was made in canada by their stamps. for being canadian there is little rust but the engine bay is really dirty..the previous owner just drove the car till it pretty much died. the engine was bronzed from the oil never being changed and i think the reason it blew was because he just let the oil leak out through the headgasket. i shouldve checked the levels before i drove it home and then i might not have had this problem

it wasnt the head gasket that blew..it was a rod!! right thru the back of the block..yiikes..good thing ive got my old si shortblock still. now ive gotta rebuild the whole motor mixing and matching parts while adding a few goodies.

two hours later we have almost everything ready to remove the head..hell might as well just pull the motor to get it easier so im grabbin the cherry picker next time im home and breakin it down. all ive got left to loosen is the motor mounts and header. this is going to be a low budget project so ill keep you posted on what im spendin. it just needs a little love and soon itll be ready to go.

Re: 4th gen HB Si

Give it some love and it should be good to go. You planning on selling it? So you didnt notice a big ass oil leak when it blew the rod, before you had it towed?

Re: 4th gen HB Si

you would think that when it got towed and tilted upward, youd gush a massive puddle right on the spot.

Re: 4th gen HB Si

oh no i saw the oil all over the place and drippin on the ground but couldnt see any holes at the time. i thought it just blew and sprayed everywhere but when i was taking off the plastic underbody i saw some small pieces that were bronzed on one side and put 2 and 2 together lol. i had to get to work so i just had the tow truck pick it up and take it to my parents.

im probly gonna sell it in the spring after i rebuild it and fix some of the cosmetics. but ya never know i just might keep it if i get attached to it lol.

Re: 4th gen HB Si

alright did some more work today, took the header out, got everything ready to pull it besides takin out the axles cuz i hate the ball joints, and finally broke down my old crx motor to find that i broke a rod in it. the block and everything is fine so when i take the hatch motor out saturday ill see if the crank is still good in it so i can combine the two to make a good one. ive got a lot of the misc brackets and bolts in a degrease bath and some of the pieces look brand new. i picked up some gasket remover and engine paint so i can paint the valve cover and header bronze. so far everythings lookin pretty good but knowing my luck somethins gonna go wrong soon

ill post up pics later ive got a ton of hw to do.

Re: 4th gen HB Si

yesterday we worked on breakin down the motors to swap the cranks. i got all my stuff painted.

both of my girdles are broken so ive gotta find a new one. gotta buy new main and rod bearings. anyone know of a good place to get them? also was wondering if putting d16a1 rods/pistons in here would give me some more power. also gotta buy some cv boots to replace the torn ones. my garage looks like a warehouse with all these engine parts everywhere.
