Re: Need some opinions

Went to talk to the ppl at Bill Heard where the '03 was yesterday.

They offered me 2500 for my trade in, and "dropped' the price to 12,500 for the '03. All-in-all, the total price was about $20K after interest, etc. I told them there was no way I'd pay 4 years for something that had only 30K miles less than what I was driving now. I offered them $11,000 and....they refused. I'm so glad I didn't let them "stick it to me".

Re: Need some opinions

Your offer was only $1500 less than theirs? They'll call you back. When I bought my '02 a few months ago, I had two deals going. The other one was an '03 with the same miles, black, no Quadrasteer. The '02 was at a Toyota dealer, so they were more willing to deal. Sure enough, two days after refusing my counter offer on the '03 (which was almost as close to their offer as yours), the sales manager called me to accept my price. Too bad for them, I already got a better deal on the truck I have now.

Re: Need some opinions

Yeah. I hope they won't call back though. I just offered them something I knew they wouldn't take. I couldn't justify paying $400/mo for a truck that has 117K on it when mine only has 141K and is paid for. The salesman and Finance dude were straight with me, the general manager however sucked!

Greetings Jeverett,

Right now - with the pressure from Ford (leases for a NEW 4 x 4 with 5.4 liter engine in a SC are $199.00 with no down and no prepayment - thats cheaper than the Rangers were 6 months ago) - vehicle dealers are going to be forced to drop their prices. Even leases are being discounted (that same $199 Imentioned at one dealer - for same conditions - is $189). Trade-ins will be smaller - there is a glut of trucks and larger SUV's on the market - being dumped by rental companies and owners. Right now - there is greater pricing pressure than I've seen in the last 10 years (and that includes 9/11). Ford just announced they are closing down truck production at 2 more plants - this is their biggest profit center - its bad.

Small cars are once again the "sought after". Used truck prices in our area have already reacted once and there will be more. My guess is both used and new will be even more attractive priced this next 60 days. Sit back and relax - prices will come to you - don't be surprised at how low they will be going. Just my opinion. Patience will payoff.

Re: Need some opinions

You are very correct. I just started thinking about that a few hours ago. I know at the same dealership that truck was at, they have some 05's and 06's that they are reducing drastically to get off the inventory. This time, I just might buy new instead of used! That would be cool, my first new vehicle ever.

Jeverett,

Patience is the payoff. Chill a couple weeks - you're way too eager - you're thinking about it EVERY day (aren't you ) - salesman can "smell it". Give it a few weeks and you will see prices dropping - as I understand it, you don't have to have a different truck in the next 2 weeks (or 3 or 4). You don't need to trust my opinion - read about Ford's problems - they are substantial (I mean scary substantial) - sense GM lauding their car sales and hybrids and not talking about their truck and SUV activity - listen to Toyota kicking the whole market around. New and used domestic trucks will go cheaper soon - desperation is in the air - and it will be yours for the taking - as long as you aren't eager

Just a quick note - did you know there are STILL brand-new 2005 models available (its that bad even after they rebated them to death). There is a glut on the market of 2006s and 2007s are shipping/shipped. Don't listen to what the dealers say - watch what they are doing - their lots are stuffed and they are shifting vehicles back and forth on the lot (repositioning colors, and products) about twice as often as normal (its called "product dancing").

Re: Need some opinions

No, I'm not thinking about it every day, I was just following up on some I had found to go ahead and get some information on them and was just posting the info on here. If I don't get one for years its okay with me. I'm just very unhappy with what I have. I never would have bought it had I not HAD to have something to drive. I was in a tight spot, and now that I'm out of it, I want to find something that I'm happy with.

I'm also looking at houses at the same time, and if I find a house for a decent price (not hard to do since real estate is dropping) I'll continue to drive what I have to sacrifice for the house. But I also just got a 10K/yr raise and it would be nice to have something I'm happy with.

Re: Need some opinions

Congrats on the raise! Live it up man, life is too short. Half the fun of buying a new vehicle is talking about it with like-minded folks, and poring over your choices. It's only money. And it's not like that $24000 truck is suddenly going to be $12000 in a few weeks. Not that I'm saying you should spend that much, or that that is the perfect truck, I'm just saying if you find the perfect truck for you, and you can afford it now, do it!

Re: Need some opinions

Jeverett, if I were you I would stay away from Bill Heard, my sister-in-law got screwed by them and they didn't even blink an eye about it. Like everyone else says stay cool and the truck that you want will come around, my wife works for a chevy dealer here in ut and they are getting ready to start the model year close out.

Greetings Jeverett,

I wasn't refering to your posting about your interests or the number of your posts. What I was refering to - is that I think you are in too big of a hurry to find "something better" and that you are not understanding how good the market is going to be for buying a new or used vehicle in the next 4 to 12 weeks. I believe if you exhibit patience - you could be staggered at how cheap you can find something really really nice. I used the words carefully. No a $24,000 truck won't be $12,000 - but it could be less than $20,000 (with an MSRP of $32000) - or ratios similar on lower equiped vehicles. It is not business as usual for dealers this fall - at least not for trucks. Why am I saying this? Just look as some of the threads on our part of A.F.. Many died-in-the-wool dedicated Chevy truck owners have sold/traded theirs in for a small car - if dedicated fans are doing it - imagine the general public. Deals are just around the corner - IMO - set your sights higher - I think you'll be surprised.

P.S. Congrats on your promotion - recognize that for many, it won't be so this year - and it gives you a decided and significant advantage.

dont forget jev the truck you have now can still be modified to your liking before I bought my truck i also thought about the obs trucks the money i had at the time would have allowed me to get a well modified c/k or s-10 off the steet however, I did not want to take a chance with repairs or major down time if you truck is running well you have a green light for lots of mods

Re: Need some opinions

I went through pretty much the same thing about 3 years ago. A local nissan dealer had a 03 rcsb work model with low miles that was exactly what I was looking for. I drove it a bit, then went to talk to the guy. They wanted 16,000 for it. At the same time, I could go to the chevy dealer down the road and get pretty much the same truck in an 04 brand new for 15,000 or less. I went back to the nissan dealer about 25 times over 3 months trying to talk some sense into those guys, but they wouldn't budge. The highest offer i think I made was 12,000, and they refused that too. I ended up with a new 04 that was exactly the same except w/ a long bed for ~14,500 out the door. Don't buy used if you can go new for cheaper. Good luck man, and don't let em screw you.
