If he had friends like that, I don't see how the DSM community is any worse... he could have stayed if he wanted to. He sounded like he just wanted to talk and meet people, right? Did he go to the Off Topic section of AF.com? I'm sorry for being a dick, and I know you're standing up for him, but really, first impressions mean a lot and if that's how we first see him as... then you know. Again, I appologize, if you ever talk to him again, you can tell him we started on the wrong foot.

On the other hand, for him to create this thread, thinking that we'll miss him or regret being mean to him with his godly 43 posts, I think someone's simply trying to be a drama queen. So boo hoo. Boo fricken hoo.

I've been on many forums, and I've gone through the same thing.. as long as you stick around, people begin to accept you.. and that's when you're no longer a noob and you actually try to make the forum better.

Well geez... I guess I should stop being so nice to all the newbs that don't make the greatest first impressions. Ya know what, its probably a good thing I didn't start out here in the E/L/T when I first came to AF or I would have been turn away by how people act here. I talk to a lot of you guys outside of AF and I know your not dicks, so why act like it here to other people that come to us looking for help?...

Seriously... Everybody has to start somewhere. You can't all really be against me on this subject, can you?

They weren't calling me stupid newb and shit like that. I don't think that the E/L/T section has been quite as nice as it should be to some newbs. Yes, I know that some deserve what they get but this guy was seriously here to learn something. I didn't know shit about a car when I came here and I'd say I've learned a pretty good bit from just a car forum.
Hey I am totally on your side. We all see alot of flaming going on here, ESPECIALLY towards newbies. I know for certain that I did not search at first when I first came to this forum. What really is unacceptable is when, a newbie asks a real dumb question or posts in the wrong subforum, and we have some members replying, "WHAT THE FUCK! POST IN THE RIGHT FUCKING SUBFORUM" or " DO A FUCKING SEARCH NEXT TIME". I know we have all seen this happen in some way or maybe even said this before.

If we where to just tell them nicely the first, second and even third time, they most likely will stop. If it becomes a repeated offense then yes a member should send them a PM or something. I feel that a PM is way more effective way to ommunicate with someone , mainly because it is a direct conversation with that person.

We are all DSM'ers we should watch eachothers backs, not stab one another.

PS: I remember when blackcrow would answer all my BS questions when I was a noob and had ZERO experience and he tolerated me. Thank You. It is members like him that should be modeled after.

Thanks man. I am trying to return to the forums what the forums gave me when I came here. I'm glad to see somebody has my back on this one. lol

Re: time to move on thanks blackcrow

But all of the regulars I can think of have something interesting to say or a good question to ask and do so in a well spelled and punctuated manner. Both of his threads were barely readable and had no clear questions or relatively interesting stories. Yes, some of us (myself included) can be a tad harsh at times, but I feel that it is sometimes necessary to keep our forum clean. I think if we get the point across right away that they can either A) leave or B) change right away. If every newbie with nothing interesting to say and the English skills of a second grader were just allowed to keep on, none of us would still be here. For example, take the Cavalier section of AF. You think this place is laidback? The Cavy section is about as unmoderated and unknowledgable as anything I have ever seen. No one knows half a damn thing over there. I started out on AF pretty much half here, half there. I dont go there hardly at all anymore, and very few of the halfways knowledgable guys that used to hang around are there anymore. The forum is now overridden with the same kind of newbies we are trying to fix or get rid of. Want to see what happens to a forum without a bit of self moderation by the forum regulars? Go there and you guys will realize that it is important to keep things in halfways decent order here. Not trying to argue with you guys, I agree we can be a tad harsh at times, but IMO a little tough love goes a long way in keeping our place in order.

I'm not saying to not moderate at all here, but it seems as though some members take things into their own hands from the wrong angles. I've seen some people reply with some of the most ignorant responses and then don't even proceed to answer the question or point them in another direction.

I almost always point them in the right direction. I was only messing with him.

Whatever.... :emo1:

Re: time to move on thanks blackcrow

I may be a bit harsh, but when you get the same question asked 1000000 times you are bound too. Especially when there are two of the same exact questions on the page. We wouldn't have to be harsh with new people if they did two things, read the FAQ's and use search. If someone tells me they searched and couldn't find something, and I know it I'll be more than happy to tell them right away what the answer is and not give them any grief.

I basically did the same thing (ignored the bad posts). Hell I still act like a noob on here from time to time, just because I don't really know to much about my car....but on the other hand I learn SOOOOOO much from the guys here that are nice, and I thank you guys for that!
