whoa whoa whoa....back up the cart here for a moment....i NEVER started this post thinking that it would cause as much of a stir as it did....that having been said i am not mechanically inclined in any way shape or form. furthermore i dont understand why every least little thing on this stupid lincoln that i have is so expensive and as much of a big deal as it is. also why is that every lazy fat old slob has one of these continentals (88-94) sitting in their driveway or garage rotting away but yet NOBODY knows enough about them to be able to fix them properly...not even the stupid lincoln dealership in my hometown. granted theres more than one but forget that...they want too much money for whats nothing more than a stinkin gussied up ford taurus...and yes that is all my continental is. so that having been said any help anyone would be able to provide as to cost of repair and whether $900 for the rear brakes is reasonable would be greatly appreciated....all that having been said i thank everyone who has responded thus far...thank you

You can do them yourself and save tons of money even if you are not mechanically inclined. $900 is way too much. Parts only cost maybe 200-300 at best. The labor is not extensive so $600 in labor is quite a lot for about 1-2 hours of work. Maybe you could get prices for labor only and you supply the parts. This way the parts won't be inflated. autozone or schucks would carry these parts.

The only problem for a novice might be the parking brake cable, but with a little help from the forums
 I have a CD copy of the 1992 Factory Service Manual for all the details if you need it. Can you get hold of basic tools, and a place to work including a jack and stands? If so, we can walk you through this one.. you'll be amazed at your abilities. edit: remove ref to rear axles, duh!

unfortunately not towncar..which is why i'm stuck paying through the nose but i think i'd rather pay through the nose than do it myself and not have any idea where to even begin
