Re: 04 Cavalier vs 86 Camaro

Possibly a ceased up clutch on the A/C compressor.

Re: 04 Cavalier vs 86 Camaro

Yeah the author missed some of the other famous excuses. I'll list them all to my knowledge:

1. Spark plugs are fouled.
2. Boost Leak (A certain member here knows all about it)
3. A/C was on
4. Car needs a tune up (More then just the typical spark plugs)
5. Car is pulling timing (Then why did you race it)
6. Traction control was on.
7. Missed a shift (Why is this used when someone raced the guy 3 times and lost?)
8. Didn't hear the 3rd honk, guy took off early
9. Tires don't grip
10. Clutch is slipping
11. Differentials blown out
12. Too much gas in my tank
13. I had an additional passenger(s) in the car.
14. The floormat got in the way of the gas pedal.

Don't speak that way about Mushashi J/K

I figured that the oil change was covered in the tune up part.

I try to avoid making excuses, then again I typically end up being paired with either much slower cars or faster cars on the average. I really haven't had a close race, as per say, in a long time.

That wasn't about anyone in particular, just in reply to all the typical excuses you hear

no actually they werent, the engine just isnt holding up very well. Some of these guys with blown engines were running no leaner than 11:1-12:1 the whole time. They do Dyno tune the cars, and with HPtuners software, its very easy to put the AF exactly where they want it. Just for some reason they engines keep blowing up, i think like 4-7 ecotecs have blown up this summer on that website alone. One just blew a few days ago, with only 10 PSI. Another thing a few of the engines blew when they werent even under load, just cruising.

same here man, while most of the cars i see are much slower, the ones that are faster are usually significantly faster.

W/E

I think I just should have just posted in the DRAG racing forum.

15.3@87>15.5@85 everytime.

and if he wants to compare fastest time slips then I am still half a second faster. (his best is 15.4)

As for the turbocharger issue. I am getting a wideband O2 sensor to make sure everything is ok. Besides I won't be running much boost right now(6 or 7psi). I have a engine in the garage I'm rebuilding so after that is ready to go I will crank up the boost. It's a relatively reliable setup off a saab. Cast manifold... smaller turbo and such. So hopefully mine will stay together.

I don't know anything about the ecotecs, but sounds like something is definitely up, what's the cr on those? Maybe the internals just can't handle the extra power, even with a good tune. Everything has it's limits, if the tunes are good, then they have apparently reached that engine's limit and need to back it down a bit to keep them alive. Or rebuld them with forged internals Are all of these blown engines from the same tuner?

Re: 04 Cavalier vs 86 Camaro

The compression ratio is 10:1 on the 2.2 ecotec's

I find it hard to believe that the ecotec can't handle boost. I've heard that that engine is more stout then even the Poopras, and as I recall Lingenfelter was racing in a 1000hp one when he ended up getting into a coma, and subsequently dying thereafter. My brother was thinking about swapping in an ecotec in his 95 saturn, with something called the monster block (Forged internals, lower compression ratio).

It's all in the tune. Most engine failures are due to people not looking over what's going on in the engine. As stated by Bad360R/T it's probably because they had knock retard.
