Re: 307 transmission

You see a lot of PowerGlides as an upgrade behind 1,100 HP Pro-Stockers, but I doubt that the car is used for a lot of 7-second runs if it still has the 307...

I had a friend who had a 1972 Malibu 4-dr with a 307 and TH350 - funniest damn thing I saw was his mom who drives a semi - backed the tractor out of a parallel parking spot - right onto the deck lid on the Malibu. Lifted the whole front end of the car about 18" into the air, like something out of a cartoon! Only damaged the decklid but man was that funny to look at.

The car wasn't very quick, but boy did it have good brakes!

Re: 307 transmission

My 70 chevelle has a 396 with a TH400, however:

The floor still has a clutch pedal, the console has a huge hole in the hump where a stick was, and the block has the ball shaft for the clutch linkage.

The column shift has a PowerGlide pattern [PRNDL] but a TH350/400 gate (I count clicks) .

* You cannot assume anything after 30-something years -- the tranny PAN is the only way to know for sure.
