Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Hmmm, could there be a pattern to the DSM way here? I am dumping a ton of money into mine too and its kinda scary when you really think about it all.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Nah, I don't think I'll ever leave the DSM world. It's in the blood. I just need a short break from the tuner scene for a bit. It's such a distraction this thing... I'm busy surfing EBay and DSMTuner classifieds for aftermarket parts, when I really should be doing research or HW on my laptop instead, lol.

david-b, I currently have a local tow truck driver that's really interested in the car. He actually towed my car once (yes, ofcourse, that's where all DSMs like to "chill" and "hang-out", their favorite spot: on the flat bed of a tow truck, lmao). He offered $12,000 cash for it. He's coming to take a look at it this Tuesday, let's see where that goes. I can't beleive I'm actually selling it... it's like I'm breaking up with my girlfriend of 16 years or something. I will post a formal ad in the classifieds if it doesnt sell locally, or put it up on EBay.

Blackcrow64, it's well worth the money; every time I drive my Spyder, it is the ultimate stress release. I feel on top of the world in that car. The sound of the turbo spooling, the BOV squeeling, the growl from the cams and the exhaust...it's a thrill that never gets old for me. The very knowledge of having a fully built 6-bolt beast under that vented hood, regardless of the fact that the vehicle is no where near it's potential at present, is satisfying enough. It's funny to see people back off once they hear the turbo. And I don't even street race. I started out building it as a cruiser, and like I said, priorities priorities...it ended up an incomplete drag car with that silly overdone motor that I absolutely did not need. But every time someone on the freeway gives me a shiteatin' grin with a thumbs up, it makes every single penny and and every single second I spent on this car worth it. Sigh... I can't wait to graduate and finally blow like $40,000 on a DSM. YesI'mretarded.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

It will be a shame to see the spyder go to a new home... We all put so much time and effort into our cars, I think thats what makes us get so close to them. Heck, I know I probably have a few months worth of working time on it since I've bought it... You should reconsider and sell the gt instead man. Its not even turbocharged. lol

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Yeah, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. I would say hold out, I dont think you'd have any trouble getting 15 grand for it. But then you may not and 12 grand is a lot of money. Kinda sucks when you realize you have gone overboard doesnt it. I have the same feeling for mine right now, but obviously not to your degree.

Like you said, that's in Canada, but there is an exchange rate which makes that "twice" as much, even less in American.

1cad = usd 0.887311 *20,000 = 17750 STILL NOT WORTH IT? and thats 20, 000 he could get more here.
Maybe you should learn the exchange rates before you say something like that. Not to mention NO SALES TAX across the border.

I sold my talon, got what i wanted and the kid totaled it 3 days later! thats his damn problem....

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

But, I think you should take the insurance off of it and cover it up and stick it in the garage. The car's not even mine and I'd still be sick if you sold it. I KNOW you could get 10k for it, probably atleast 15k for it. I think you should spend some time with the car....do a little more driving in it, maybe take a long trip, and really think about if it would be worth it to sell it. Theres no way you are going to get out of it what you have in it, so you might as well just keep it. I have far less put into my Spyder...and if it ever came down to me not being able to drive it, it would sit in my backyard under a cover and under the shelter. But man its your call, I just hope you don't rush into anything then sell it, and never forgive yourself.

BTW, if you have to sell it, first take off the 16g, the coilovers, the short throw, and the gauges, and sell them to me.

First off all he lives in San Diego, why would he take his car to Canada to sell it?

Last I remember which was a while ago the exchange rate was $1.46 Canadian is $1 American. Even though that was a while ago I'm sure it hasn't changed all that much, besides who the fuck is going to travel from the US to Canada to sell there car?

And learn how not to be a dick.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

well it really sux that you are selling it. PLEASE find it a good home, it is one of the best looking spyders out there.

if you want to trade it for my GSX i'll let ya have it, the GSX is much more practical and you could sell the GT and enjoy 4 doors a turbbooo

oh yeah, did i mention that you could garage it? like at my house. shoot, i'll give you 50$ a month to let me drive it around... (on occasion).

sound good? i hope you make a good decision for yourself, and though it is difficult seeing your paychecks fall into someone else's hands remember that though it is difficult, it may be the best thing. shoot, i may even kno a guy here in missouri that would want it for a shell. meaning, he's already got the baddest spyder i've ever seen and in that body it would be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Damn Sphyder, I am sure the decision is going to be a very hard one....

Just do what you have to do and do it with no regrets.

Take into consideration, the fact that you can sell the GT, store the spyder and maybe buy a real fuel-efficient, trusty car....yes I am sorry...a honda. I know a "honduh" would be like betrayal but school is way more important and down the road would be well worth, when you can put another $50K into it. lol

Good luck

I'm not a car guy? That's funny because I work in a shop that focus's on driveability and electrical problems. I work there 50 hrs a week. And on top of that I have worked at Pep-boys and Sears Automotive. Let alone I have restored 14 corvettes and I also buy and sell them. Also I had a 92 Eagle Talon that i rebuilt twice and a 1991 GSX that I redid from the bottom up and sold. So before you tell me that i'm not a car guy better know something first. Mommy and daddy didn't buy me anything...

Re: Thinking about getting rid of the Spyder...

Ooh ooh, I wanna see some pictures! I used to be into old school stuff too. I dont know, 4 cylinder cars just got me when I saw F&F. Turbo cars sound wayyyyyy cooler than a big V* IMO. All they get is BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. We get the vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm and at like 2200 rpm the faint zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, then under WOT and full boost the SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS of the turbo sucking air then the pssssssssssh of the BOV. For a stock 1g BOV, mine is loud as shit, I love it.
