Thats because the S50, S52, and S54 were never meant to be boosted motors. The Supra and FD, only two examples I used, are already boosted, your just upgrading the turbos. With an M3, for example, your getting everything you need to add the turbo to the car.

Quote:
so once again dollar per hp is horrible when your comparing european cars to american or japanese cars. you can find turbo kits for japanese cars for $2500 and thats with a intercooler.
Most people with euro cars (I'm not one of them, mind you) are willing to pay massive amounts for the kits. I know a number of BMW and Audi owners that have poured tons of money into their cars to get the same results. I'm not gonna get into the money argument however, as its another can of worms. IMHO, moeny is a non issue when it comes to tuning cars. Budget tuning is cute and all, but I find it no more impressive if you spend five thousand to get 500whp or ten+ to get 500whp. To each his own.

Quote:
these guys spent soo much money on wheels paint, body, interior and they only have a intake for a mod.
I will yield you that. Thats why I don't read eurotuner. Just like import tunner. Guys spend tons of cash on their car, and barely crack out a low 13/high 12

Quote:
why would they do that? why would they put the engine so far to the front that you can't even change the belt yourself without taking out the front from radiator support to put the car into service mode?
Probably for the same reason Honda or Toyota or Dodge or Ford or GM would make a front wheel drive car and then market it as sporty. Its their choice. And certain people have different ideas when buying a car. Your forgetting that not everyone in the world looks at cars the way you and I, and most other people on this site do. Is it cushy, comfy, and quiet? Yes? Then I'll buy it costs be damned.

Quote:
you go to an audi dealer and buy the exact same replacement part for your VW yet it cost more but its the exact same part.
Same reason that getting a part for an Infiniti or Lexus costs more than a part for a Nissan or Toyota. Brand marketing. Its the same reason why a box of Cheerios costs more than a box of toasty yum yum circles.

Quote:
all in all, if your someone who likes to work on your own car, a european is not the way to go unless you like a challenge and have lots of money.
Not really. It all depends on the car you end up getting. I know from seeing them that Audis are hard as hell to work on. But not all euros are that way. Hell, my CAI, I did in the back parking lot of my school, used the tool kit that came with my car to do it, and it took me maybe thirty minutes at most. My room mate, in order to do his Acura, had to take off the front wheel, pull off the bumper, and then get it put on, then reverse the process. It took over an hour.

Not really. I'll be the first person to point out all the faults of my car, and every car I like or want I can point out the faults with.

The only intakes I've ever seen for under 200 bucks for any car are the POS SRIs of eBay, and I refuse to buy parts for my car of eBay.

Re: one bit, one didn't

You can get decent sized conical K&Ns for around $70 if you shop online, add another $20 for an adapter. If you want a CAI, piping is pretty cheap, and despite what a few dozen honda fans have told me, I don't think AEM has a scientific edge over Home Depot in that department. Just my .02

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: one bit, one didn't

I know of a few guys that didn't want to pay the outrageous prices for an AA or similar kit, so they made their own. Cost them about $5,000 or so for the parts/tuning solution. They're making over 450 whp in E36 M3's...stock engine except ARP head bolts and a thicker multi layer head gasket.

For the most part, owners of Bavarian cars will pay the stupid high prices for upgrades, but it's not as if they can't be done up yourself for the competitive price on Japo car kits.

Oh yeah, tuning a BMW is very difficult and expensive. A ton of the price is in the tuning.

I prefer to pay for quality and knowledge that the intake was designed by someone who knew what they were doing, and not a crap shoot guess and check by me. That, and my intake is made of carbon fiber. It looks sexy.

Yeah, home depot piping belongs under the hood of ratty Hondas and Kias, not in a nice Bimmer.

whats funny is that i had to scroll to the top of the page to see what the title was because i forgot what it was about...

actually something you mentioned earlier about being the first to mention the faults of your car. i actually do the same thing, and i know my car has faults. suspension designed in 1979 being the main one.

Re: one bit, one didn't

yes you do have your points there CM, not everyone who buys cars will look at it like how we do. we are in fact the minority.

however that HKS kit involves just as much parts as a bimmer kit would becasue your going from a twin to a single. so it would also include the manifold, the downpipe, the fuel, and tuning, the external wastegate the turbo and everything to get you to 700whp for only $5900.

just because the car comes turboed from the factory doesn't mean that a turbo kit is just a turbo.
