Re: 1992 Nissan 240SX General Question

Many vehicle owners believe that higher octane fuels are better for their vehicles since they are labeled "PREMIUM." The logic is that since it is a premium fuel it must be better. In reality, the premium label originates from the higher cost to refine and the resultant higher retail cost. Some refiners label their high octane fuels "SUPER." Some owners think that these fuels will make their vehicles more powerful. Only engines with high compression ratios can deliver all the potential energy from higher octane fuels! Always consult the manufacturer's octane recommendation to determine the proper octane requirements for any given vehicle. Generally, engines with compression ratios of 9.3 : 1 or less will safely operate with unleaded 87 octane fuel. Engines with higher compression ratios usually require higher octane fuels.

Soooo
N/A ka = perfecly fine with 87 oct

Turbo/Forced Indc. ka = preferably 91+ oct

Re: 1992 Nissan 240SX General Question

the additives that bp has are just supposed to help clean injectors and minor things like that. it may help but i doubt it does anything incredible, since if it did a lot more people would be using it. from what i think i know higher octane works by letting the fuel burn cleaner and maybe longer, so it's a better burn. though you have stock ka i would still recommend using premium fuel. when i first bought my 240 i ran 87 and i happened to run 94 next time i filled up and the car felt wonderful. the car does recommend premium fuel, but i'd say you can go without it under normal driving conditions. if you plan to beat up on the car a little i'd make sure to use higher octane.

We don't get the jungle juice like the guys over seas... especially in California, we're stuck with 91. You have call around to find a station that carries 100 octane.

Re: 1992 Nissan 240SX General Question

Florida has 87, 89, 93 and a handful carry 103 octane for like 5 bucks a gallon.

i was under the impression the higher the octane the more knock resistant the fuel was?

Just thought i'd let u know!.....Giving your 240 87 octane is like feeding your dog u love so much, No name shitty dog food!Think about it AND TRY iT!!!
how about whoever believes this is an idiot.
your fuel burns slower, but your injectors determine the amount that gets burned. and it all burns every combustion. stop trying to get people to waste money.
yes. thats all. theres no other benefit to higher octane than detonation resistance. all this bullshit about better gas mileage or more power is just that: bullshit.

Actually, he is partially right. Well atleast for where i live, 89 and 92 have a cleaning agent in the fuel, but 87 (minmum octane) doesnt have any sort of cleaning agent. I think the larger factor in buying gas, is the company you buy from. You want to stay away from places like ARCO, safeway, costco etc.. And go to places like Chevron (my family only buys there) Shell, etc..

Re: 1992 Nissan 240SX General Question

u have top bew aware of the automotic seatbelts too, those tend to wear out. if the car has a clean title u should just be able to take it to a nissan dealership,. and they should order the part and fix it for free because those seatbelts are under lifetime warrenty. if the title is salvaged though, they might not do it, they say it voids the warrenty. my car is salvaged but they never checked when i went in and they did it all for free, but u might have to shop around for the right nissan dealership.

well thats the first ive heard of that, but the station you buy from matters little. all stations use the same pipelines from the same refineries. the only difference is the additives added later. so you can sort of get different additives, but theres no way to avoid a "bad" tank of gas. technically you can probably avoid bad gas by using premium all the time, but its not worth the extra price. a good tank of premium and a good tank of 87 will run the same and provide the same benefits. unless you live in a place like hitnrun.
