Re: The Next Comp?

I agree with RallyRaider- participation is the most important thing.

Personally, I like the idea of having a (insert theme here) Motorsport Build/Meet instead of calling it a 'contest'. The difference may just be semantics- I do like the idea of having judging and prizes- but I know people who aren't building because they believe they wouldn't be competitive. It would be nice for people not to drop out because of the "I won't win, so what's the point" mindset. Honestly, this is part of why I started my 635 so late. We have alot of serious talent here, and experinced builders showing off fabulous builds early on in the contest idealy shouldn't discourage less experinced people from participating.

As for a theme, I really like the continuation of the decade themed build- but if we do anything other than '70s or '90s, we risk a serious lack of participation. I've got something cool picked out for the '70s!

Doing it by color seems a bit contrived to me- especially because competition cars frequently have such intricate and multicolored schemes. It seems inevitable that we'd have to resort to 'how little of a color can I get away with' discussions.

I do like the 'cigarettes and alcohol' idea, though.

I suspect we're going to have another poll to decide everything, after we have three or for popular ideas?

And by the way, should this thread maybe be in the general discussion area?

Re: The Next Comp?

Tobacco and Alcohol-Theme sounds great. I donīt know about the "Open-Wheel-Theme", though. To me it seems to restricitve.

Personally, I donīt really see me building some sort of openwheeler! How about we skip "open" or "closed" wheels and call for "alcohol and Tobacco", however the cars are constructed in the first place!

Would include bikes very easily!

Re: The Next Comp?

I kind of have the idea of fantasy race cars. Something that didnt ever race, but you'd like to see it. Like a Mini in Le Mans. I've got a few race cars I'd like to build, but not the same as all the other cars, something different.

You dont have to go as extreme as a Mini, it could be your version of a Le Mans 360. Even Trans Am racing muscle cars.

That idea really allows the mind to get creative, and you wouldnt be held to strict building instructions.

My two cents.

I agree, I was going to suggest, something along the lines of an almost futuristic race car. Maybe creating something like a concept race car. Something that can really get everyones imagination to flow.

Re: The Next Comp?

I also like the phantom race car idea.
However the the tobacco/alcohol sponsoring idea comes close, too.
Just like godfather23 I don't see myself building open wheelers soon, but who knows...

Re: The Next Comp?

I dunno. While it could be interesting, I'm not sure it's particullarly feasible for a large participation competition. The more creativity you ask from people, the fewer will enter and the slower they will build. Not intended as an insult or an attack, just the objective truth- it's more difficult to build and be 'creative' than it is to just build, and therefore fewer people would participate.

Besides, if we're going to delve into the realm of fantasy cars, why bother restricting it to race cars? It would be a really fuzzy line between fantasy race cars and, say fantasy drift competition cars- and then from there to fantasy modded street cars, and then.... Where do you want to draw the line, and why bother? Really, if there's enough interest in a fantasy theme, open it to everything- you'll at least get more builds.

I have plenty of great kits of real race cars that I just haven't gotten around to starting, and I really like having a motorsports contest to entice me to pull something out of the stash and start it. I don't have a kit of a car I've been planning to turn into a fantasy racer- and I seriously doubt many other people here do. I can come up with something I'd build for just about every real world category that's been suggested- but if the contest would mean buying an entirely new kit and then coming up with some creative new idea to change it into, I'd sit it out....

Re: The Next Comp?

I think that a phantom race car build could be envisaged as a separate thing. I really like that idea, but now I'm not so sure it's quite suitable for the case at hand.

Some good discussion going on here, and some good points made, guys. Keep 'em coming!

while I work on my entry for the current contest

Yes probably you're right. Looking back I note I was only sharing my wonder, not looking at the best for a great contest, the better idea woul be the one which can move the ass of more people possible

Re: The Next Comp?

Don't you know it? It fight in the Tennessee GT series.
I'm kidding, just pimped trought PS in 5 minutes . But I admit N°7 is a good deal for that pony also as the fuel (have you tried? may be JD'll have more octane than nitro ).

Well friend I promise: no more joking in this thread (if you warrant me that Klutz-100 can't fall down here) I note you're quetly tedious and a bit serious than normal: I'll do the good from now

Re: The Next Comp?

Well I guess fantasy livery is kinda hard. ALmost every contestant has to be able to make decals himself. Don't know if a lot off people will enter the contest then. What about something sinister? Every car in the contest has to have something to do with death. Like Senna's Williams, Christine (from Stephen King), James Dean car, the lincoln from kennedy... and so on...
It's perhaps a a bit to far.. but it would definatly be something else then "lemans" ;-)

Re: The Next Comp?

Tobacco and alcohol is a great idea! or just Red Bull cars would be awesome too! Or im always a big fan of going back to LeMans theme, i have a major build project planned for this year involving a LeMans car.

It's only my opinion but I don't like it at all. I prefere collect stuff that have something to do with life, but I appreciated the idea
