Re: Bird shat on my window, stain won't come off...

If it was 1 of the sliders I would recomend that you go get a used 1 at the wrecker at this point.

It might be time to run it past the detailers and ask them what they think.

Gonna try the razor blade, alcohol maybe even a bit of gasoline.

Did you get it off somehow?

Was it on the inside?
If it was don't be emberesed. It had us all puzzled as well.

Thanks man

Re: Bird shat on my window, stain won't come off...

Sorry for the lack of updates guys,

I was indeed bird doo-doo because I noticed it on the day I washed my car due to the fact it had doo-doo on the back window.

I washed it with a soft wash mit and it didn't come off (I thought maybe it was wash mit's fault) but as you can probably already tell its been one hell of a stubborn stain to remove.

I haven't done much about it yet I've been meaning to take a razor blade to it but haven't found the time, will let you know how I make out.

Re: Bird shat on my window, stain won't come off...

Ok I see what is going on. By any chance when you washed your truck did you use a soap with wax? If so the wax has created a protective coating as it would on the painted surfaces. Alcohol and alcohol based cleaners won't take it off. Try a wax remover something like a weak acetone mixture. I would stray away from abrasives. On a side note... A few years back on my way home from the Outer Banks, I parked on the ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke a bird pooped right in the middle of my hood i mean a HUGE pile. As soon as I could get to a car wash maybe an hour later, the paint had already cracked and started to peel. Hell if I let it go any longer it probably would have eaten my entire engine.

Dawn is supposed to be the best for it.

It is what they use on Autopia before they wax. And these guys are neurotc car finish buffs.

True, but one thing that is tested is that Dawn will not harm clear coats or finishes.

Some people think that Sunlight is a little too harsh for car cleaning.

Not arguing with you, they will do the same job.

Actually that would be a good independant test if someone had the resources.
See what soaps harm what surfaces, and what cleans the best

Re: Bird shat on my window, stain won't come off...

I still haven't gotten around to doing anything about the stain, it has been raining here montreal for over a week.

I did come across this in the Mothers detailing guide:

"If the outside or your glass is marred with water spotting or minute scratching, Mothers Chrome Polish can help to erase the damage. Often, only the outer edge of the water spot will remain. Repeated applications of chrome polish may remove spots, but if not the glass is most likely etched and needs to be professionally polished"

I'm going to try this as a first step and if that doesn't work I'll try cleaning it with an SOS pad. I'll try and take a picture of the stain so you can see what I'm talking about.
