Re: quick KA-T questions.

as for turbos, if your every looking to get a used turbo and want to rebuild it. Dont get a Garrett. Yeah they make some bullet proof setups, but so far ive ran into problems with every single Garrett ive rebuild. Wether it be the huge ass snap ring hold the compressor housing on, to the internal bearing rings not being of any similar size to any other company and having to custom order them, ive always had problems. So far my favorite turbos are IHI's lineups. Im planning to build a hybrid IHI RHC7 compressor with a smaller exhaust housing similar to a IHI VF39.

But if you never plan to rebuild, then disregard everything i just said....

Re: quick KA-T questions.

DO NOT DO 370cc Injectors if you plan on going about 300whp eventually.

Theyve actually done research on HUGE Intercoolers and SMALL intercoolers and there was no difference that was neglible in spool characteristics from IC to IC.

God this forum sucks now. Ill help out KA bound people.

You said youll start out with a T3/T04E at first? a 50 trim T3/T04E is good to like 400WHP...

As said above, 370cc will be a waste of money on the ECU tune. Save up a lil more.

Hit N Run - I think you just got unlucky, Garrett make some of the best turbos there are. I don't think mitsubishi are all that better, if not worse.

Huge brand name intercooler are a waste of money imo, jr make some nice ones for little money.

Re: quick KA-T questions.

I already found a guy to do my intercooler for me locally, he said 350-370 for all piping, IC, and powdercoat any color I want. I'll probably go black, any other color is too much.

he said he could recomend a top-mount. Is that pretty much just like a front mount or what, I'm not quite sure on that.

I also suggested V-mount, and he said he could do it too. Are there drawbacks to having this setup for the street. When thinking about it, you could see how it might not get enough air to it, making it less effective.

I've seen front mounts, as everyone has, and I just dont like the looks of it. My whole idea for building this car is to keep it kinda low-profile.

So would you be able to see it very well with a top mount setup?

Re: quick KA-T questions.

well top mount is just stupid..wtf...yea lets make it impossible to do a quick check of anything on the motor...

V-mount setup...
THE GOOD...better throttle response...SOMEWHAT lower profile, but not much

THE BAD...have to cut supports to make the setup work...will destroy front end of car in ANY type of front end collision. Will cost more to make mounts cut stuff up...ect...also fmic will be in the way of stuff.

FMIC for the win...if you paint the IC and piping black, it will be unnoticeable. and you can still get in a collision without destroying your motor and car. and is inevitably easier to work on the motor...or whatever in the engine bay with the fmic

Re: quick KA-T questions.

if you got a top mount, wouldnt you need to have a big hood scoop (like on the wrx) to make it anywhere near effective?

Re: quick KA-T questions.

well, even when he was talking to me about doing a top mount intercooler, he was still pointing around behind the front bumper.

he's an old guy though, maybe he just got confused.

Fuck looks, there's a reason why everyone you see has a front mount. Go front mount, who cares what it looks like, it is the best way to go...top mount sucks, an oil change would even be a challenge.

As far as people seeing your top mount, well, its mounted ON TOP of your engine, hence no, people wont see it when your driving, but yes if you open the hood lol.

Re: quick KA-T questions.

all this talk about hiding shit w/ turbo apps is kinda stupid. i mean what the fuck are you trying to hide shit for we all know right when the engine gets reved anyone who is worth racing will hear the turbo and know you are well runing a turbo
and if you disagree w/ me then jump off of a tall building

"sure. first tell me who 'they' is, and then show me this research."

Its an online subscription which you would have to pay like 25 bucks to see the article.

"Fuck looks, there's a reason why everyone you see has a front mount. Go front mount, who cares what it looks like, it is the best way to go...top mount sucks, an oil change would even be a challenge."

Oil change would be the same for a V-Mount as a Front Mount.

I would NOT do a V-Mount unless you will be Nazi about ducting for the Intercooler.

As far as people seeing your top mount, well, its mounted ON TOP of your engine, hence no, people wont see it when your driving, but yes if you open the hood lol.

I care about what it looks like, its my fucking car, so I'll do what I want to get what I want out of my car.

If I do front mount, its going to be black and as far back as it can be.

I dont know why you care so much, you'll never see my car.

Where are you getting this info from? I say shens unless a link is provided. And this forum doesnt completely suck, just some of the people around here do.

And no, its not i havent had any luck with garrett. I wouldnt put mitsu higher than Garrett either. Garrett does make some of the best products, but what im saying is if you ever want to do maintance on your turbo, or rebuild it, then your gonna have a bitching time with it. The TO4B/E series garretts ive worked with werent really a problem, but the smaller T25/T28/T3's are just a bitch to work on.

Re: quick KA-T questions.

I cant provide a link. You have to pay to see the article. The reasoning behind it was that the Compressor Compresses SOOO much air soo fast that it really is neglible differences.

Re: quick KA-T questions.

hmmm ok sure w/e i guess you believe everything you read on the internet. or maybe its all bs because you are so reluctant to even provide a URL or say who wrote it. and what research they did. compressors compress a lot of air but really...10psi over atm isnt all that much. and the difference in intercooler sizes is bigger than you think 24x8x2.5 has HALF the volume of a 24x12x3.
