Re: picture of a 97 geo 3 cyl with the timing belt cover removed

I bought it from a Montanan, last Spring, who said his college age son drove it and wanted
a more powerful vehicle. (????) $1,100.

I've replaced the front wheel bearings (myself), had the rear brakes done, bought a fuel
pump ($180), snow tires and wheels bought, replaced many inside plastic thingies,
etc. I have too much $$ into it to not keep going. It was getting 47 mpg before it quit
running.

As to the engine, I know not what was done with it.

How would I know if the engine was upgraded?

Does it have numbers on it that I can obtain and relate back to this forum?

I enjoyed the conversations with Blake (DieInterim).

Whatever sparks that flew between him and others is not my concern.

I hope he didn't leave the forum. I would miss his comments.

I will be re-assembling my '93 (year on the Title) 3 cylinder TB top half and taking a peek
at the fuel pump pressure maybe this weekend.

Been sitting on my fat 63 year-old arse all winter, turning into butterfat.

The weather has finally turned nice here in Spokane, WA and gasoline has gone up to
$2.72 a gallon - so I should get the little bastard back into running condition (if I can!).

Photos will be taken and questions asked.

$2.72 a gallon, I wish! Here in Edmonton, we get about the cheapiest gas prices in all of Canada, which is currently $1.04 per litre, which works out to $3.93 per gallon!! Maybe Canada should take a page from the U.S. book on controlling international oil prices, and invade Venezuela.

If you want to be like the USA, just allow your piss-ant, ass-wipe environmentalists to
keep you from exploring and drilling for your own damned oil..!

We could probably be free from buying the damned Arab's oil if we could drill out our
own oil from alaska and 'off shore,' but the tree huggers and frog lovers have us totally
emasculated. Pussy whipped. Save the Caribou, but screw the citizenry....

By the way, don't get me started..... I freak out when politics are the subject.

I suppose these comments will cause massive retaliation from the environmentalists.

I expect this won't be here very long - you know, "Freedom of Speech"

Sorry Doc, I knew that and probably was trying to get a reaction out of you. I like to know what everybody has to say about the oil issue, and since all of my friends are tree huggers, I don't hear too much variety of opinion.

As far as drilling in ANWAR (Alaska) did you know that an improvement of only 1 mile per gallon in American vehicles would save far more oil than there is in Alaska? Since you own a metro, I'm sure you appreciate this point.

Personally my gripe is with companies like Ford. A Ford Taurus gets 20 MPG in the city, 27 MPG on the highway with 153 hp. In comparison, a Toyota Camry gets 24 MPG in the city, 34 MPG on the highway with 158 hp. You can buy either car for about $21,000. What is wrong with this scenario. Tell me Ford isn't in bed with the oil companies. It's just the perpetuation of the Capitalist market system. If we ran out of things to sell, the economy would plummet.

My point is, there are other solutions that we can pursue. War and oil drilling are not realistic solutions, cause they will eventually lose their effectiveness, like when there is no more oil.

First -
What is wrong with this Forum?
It seems the "Database" is down about half the time....
It takes forever for anything to load when I click on something.
Is the system antiquated and overloaded?
How many Manufacturers, Makes and Models are there separate forums for and how
many people are on this system at any one time?
How many Hard drives?
Wow! Big crash coming - no?

BTW - this is the best forum I know of except for the lousy performance of the system.

Second -
How many vehicles do you own Carpenter?

And what are they and what mpg's do they get?

How do you heat your house and how efficient does it hold the heat?

I ask because many's the time people comment on the poor gas mileage of "American"
vehicles all the while they are driving those same kinds of vehicles...

Few people drive those little 3-wheel motorcycle engine "cars" one sees in France and Italy or use "motorscooters."

I also see many comments from Canadians about the 'terrible' things American's
do all the while canadians buy our stuff and come here to visit.

We have Canadian news 'anchorpeople' and are constantly being commented on by
Canadians as if we are monsters.

Don't get me wrong....I like Canadians and Canada. Especially Pamela Anderson !
We'll use American Made Silicones and make her an even bigger star!

I just get tired of the USA being the butt of all criticism while other countries ignore
their own internal screwups and difficulties.

AND ! - as long as Human Beings have a decent level of income and living standards
and as long as Oil and Ethanol and Hydrogen and Methane are available, we humans will buy
and drive the largest vehicles we can afford.

It is human nature! Canadian, European, or Russian, or Oriental!

Those Big Gas Hogs sell! If they are so bad, why do people buy them!?

They are a 'drug'! My car is bigger than your car! Size does matter! Yes Pamela!

Ever see a woman driving a Suburban!
My wife loved ours when we could afford to gas the bastard up!
She was Queen of the Highway!
No road bullies there!
She honked that huge horn and people crapped their pants when they saw the grill in their rearview mirror!
Now in her Geo Tracker with that poopie little "toot toot" horn, they grin as they cut in front of her!

Long story short - Human Nature......

Re: picture of a 97 geo 3 cyl with the timing belt cover removed

Wow! This entire AF was down a whole day! Anybody know why?

Here's my action plan.

1. Get off my fat dead arse!

2. Put the Throttle position Sensor back on.

3. With the TB top off all the hoses are off.

I will put a pressure gauge on the fuel out hose and use an old battery to force the
fuel pump to pump using the wire harness under the seat.

If I don't get the nominal fuel pressure - I have to replace my fuel pump (bought one last fall).

If the old one works, then I will blow thru the fuel return hose (Fuel Cap off the tank) to see
if that is plugged. If it is (?????).

4. Then I will pull the dohickie that vents some exhaust into the TB and see if it is full of carbon.
If so - I will clean it.

5. Then I will reassemble the Throttle Body and see if the damned car runs.....

6. I want to try timing the car. I have an old timing light that runs off the battery and the
first plug wire.

7. If not working after that, then I will be stumped...

Re: picture of a 97 geo 3 cyl with the timing belt cover removed

Bill,

Any attacks I lodged against America were only intended to be directed towards your government. As far as the people of the U.S. and Canada go, we are not very differant as far as I can tell. We watch the same movies and tv shows, eat the same food, tell and laugh at the same jokes, and have the same bad habits. My metro is the only car I drive, and I shudder at the thought of picking up something that eats more gas, but before I try to prove how perfect I am, I will say that I fall prey to the same evil tendencies that most American and Canadians do. I buy things, I drive, I don't tell my govenrment to stick it you know where when I don't agree with them, often enough. I don't want to sound like some smug, holier than thou Canadian, I'd never get away with it, but I do think that we, the people can and should do more to protect the environment. I mean look at that word. Environment is where we get the lumber to build our homes, water to drink, food to eat, air to breath. We can't lose even one of those things and continue to survive for more than a few days, or weeks. So, if I sound stupid and illogical, than go ahead and dismiss my concerns and keep buying big monster gas guzzlers, since everybody else is doing it, and it won't make any differance anyway.

To add my 2c - I think that is human nature in the US. I've lived in other countries and never really know people people crave big vehicles like they do here. Here many people like to drive big vehicels - but hey - it's their money and if they want to spend it on gas to look good in a gas guzzler as far I'm concerned they are welcome. Me personally - I have better things to spend my money on than a shiny new and big vehicle and gas.
