Are they a 'fast' 8 miles? Stop-and-Go traffic isn't so nice, either. Are your front wheels dirty with brake dust? You may be driving too fast?

How about idle time? Do you sit and drink coffee while it warms up? (Do you smoke four cigarettes doing it?)

I drive past some schools when school lets and mothers are lined up for a mile with cars idleing for heat or air cond. sometimes for close to an hour. Even at lunch time lines at fast food places it could take a 1/2 hour.

Ahhh... I C. Sounds like your mileage is about right. (Thing is, you're not supposed to idle a Bronco for both heat and a/c....)

If your engine is overheating it is a good idea sometimes.

Re: Ok I'll admit it this a stupid question

If your engine is overheating, yes, running the heater will help. If your engine is running fine, and your wife idles with the A/C unit engaged-she will very likely melt the 'upside down' head gasket*, and you're in for new gaskets.

*Ask me how I know.
