None of mine have ever displayed a problem. Hell, my Caprice was the best, not even a tap of the pedal to shut the choke, fired right up even after sitting for near 2 weeks in 10 to 20 degrees (daytime highs) the whole time. Any of my EFI cars, try and do the same, eh eh, that's a PITA that usually requires charging the damn battery from trying to crank the sucker.

Re: engine swap.....

LS1's will bolt in fine. All it takes is the adapter motor mounts and crossmember. Other than that its just wiring. But that is the same with both the lt1 and ls1.

I wouldnt sell the car because your right, you wont get what its worth. And I also wouldnt stick with TBI or 305. At least not with the factory computer.

Re: engine swap.....

I think it uses the regular small block mounts. The ls1 has different mounts but the adaptors bolt right to the k member.

well the t56 needs a different tranny crossmember, you'll also need a better radiator, corvette accessories (unless you want to beat your crossmember out of the way of the a/c compressor), different fuel lines, a custom wiring harness, you're gonna need to mount the pcm somewhere underhood since its too big to fit where your factory one is, you're also gonna need an lt1 fan shroud, if you're going to use a 6-speed you'll also need to cut a hole in your firewall, and cut a hole for the shifter, you'll also need a speedometer adjustment module, and a custom intake setup. plus finding a place to mount a power steering resivour (spelling?) anyways, theres more to the list but i have class but you get the idea, its no drop in let me tell you that much, except for the motor mounts, nothing just bolts up...

Re: engine swap.....

with the ls1 you can use fbody accessories, hawks sells brackets to use the factory a/c compressor. Im using a 4l60e trans and making a custom guage cluster out of a 4th gen cluster. Its just a lot of wiring. The motor and trans should go right in.

Re: engine swap.....

My friend said he did his LS1 swap for 3 thousand, he has a 92z, still not sure how he pulled that off, I'd have to see under the hood to see what he used, I only rode in it once.

Re: engine swap.....

if youre car is T.B.I you could up grade to T.P.I. tuned port injection you wont spent alot of money if you go to a junk yard it is easy to do my friend did it to his 1987 suburban and it looks good i would say it look better then my LT1 he spent 90$ in the junk yard and 200$ on ebay for the injector
so you need to wake up early mornig to find one junk yard because they dont last a day.alot of people are doing it and some people are selling this on ebay for lots of $$$$$ so go to the junk yard its worth it

Re: engine swap.....

Yeah if you do the labor yourself and you keep all eyes and ears open for the best deals the ls1 swap isnt all that bad. My swap should be close to 3000 but it will probably go a little over that. Depends on which direction I go with the cam and trans really.

So far I have:
complete shortblock
intake manifold
stock rocker arms(thinking of some harlan sharps instead=more $)
tsp pushrods
heads with comp918 springs(had the machine shop clean them up)
injectors
ARP head bolts
ARP rod bolts
Complete felpro gasket set (upper and lower)
clevite bearings
rollermaster double roller timing set
oil pan, windage tray, pickup tube
I bought a NX stage 2 nitrous cam but I dont know if I want to use it or not. Might have to go bigger
and I have the ls1 adapter mounts

Probably some other stuff somewhere. Im running a parts store out of my bedroom right now because I cant install this stuff till my bearings get here. I tore up the first set when the mains werent seated all the way when I tried to plastigage it. Live and learn though. I dont think I have hit the 2000 mark yet with just those parts but im not far away.

Re: engine swap.....

Hey everyone. It's been awhile. I'm currently in Wyotech and the shit is great! As some already know, I'm gonna blow the 305 with the charger i got from 92z and some research. and i've also gotta a couple of other things up my sleeve. I'll post results, even if they are crappy, but let's hope for the best!

Re: engine swap.....

I happen to have a 77 chev 350 in my 91 trans am. with a carb. Never been happier. f-- that fuel inj. unless your gonna run it up a steep hill. I get 17 miles a gallon. Not bad for an engine that old...with a carb. and i dont have to deal with all the B.S. no computers, no nothin. i can start her up and go, in the middle of January, all you need is a CHOKE. Maybe Ill give you some boys a lesson on how to run a carberated engine. I would never go any other way. I dont want to spend all the money replacing sencors and all that other crap that comes with a fuel injected pile

no harm meant .
if you are not off roading, than you dont really need fuel injection
sorry guys, just a carb fan, dont take it personal
enjoy

Re: engine swap.....

good point. As long as you can do the maintenance that goes along with a carb its fine. FI in the end will still yield better results though.
