Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

Great start with that engine! I really look forward seeing more of this.

Just be sure that car in that colour really exists. There were only 122 Daytona Spiders made and not many of them are blue. Here are pics of couple of them, there may be more, but here's a start:

Very nice so far, love the detail. Is this your SIXTH? Awsome, I'm up to my fifth model now and I'm nowhere near your level. How about a yellow body?

Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

superb work there, Steve. the engine is a real jewel, the idea for the fuel rails is great. I cant believe how well you wired the engine. i can never get my wire ends to be so clean and attached so well. the BMF trick on the heads came out excellent. i'n really amazed here. is the engine stand part of the kit, or did you make that too? i'm having troubles with the forum lately and some of the pics arent showing even after i refreshed the page 3 times so i will check back and see what goodies i've missed so far. all hail to Klutz.

Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

who da pro. you da pro. unbelievably nice work on the engine. i bet that thing would start if you wanted it to. anyway i might look into buying this kit in the future, just to use the distributer caps you made. GREAT work.

Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

Just in case anyone was thinking that this thread died a death, Gio, MPWR and I are working furiously on our interiors and are looking to do an update any day soon (hear that Gio?!! )

I’ve managed in the meantime to get the engine just about finished and added some small details such as these homemade decals to the oil filters. This was the first time I tried making my own decals and I spent more money on this than the rest of the build put together

I also made up some decals for the battery:

Detailed up the air filter with some spare PE parts, decals and dry brushing:

Brake servo detailed and plumbed (sort of) and 2 quadzero-style (sprue) ignition coils (I’m guessing that the car had them and that they were here, but I could be wrong):

Radiator partially wired (again guess work ) and plumbed.

Pretty much finished engine:

Look out for a topless 3-way update in the near future

Looking spectacular my friend. You're keeping me on my toes. You've come a long, long way.

(Just think, a year ago it was almost all I could do to get you to post a build! )

Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

Looking great! With some detailing to the engine stand, those pics would look as though they were of a real engine!! That radiator looks so convincing too.

BTW, what is this 'dry brushing' technique?

Whats? I heard nothing Well be care to come back in the goofy suit and I'll have my job ready :evil lol:

Well your job is stunning, fanrtastic details on the battery, filters, overall: I love that dayto. I don't knew you 1 year ago and when I discover "klutzway" you was over the 2cv that's fabulous: yes seem you cover a big modelling distance at light-speed: probably the forum give you help but I think you're a talented modeller (that's different from builder) so my 2 cent, thanks. And give me the address where you found the bigmac at 50 cents that I'm hungry

Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

wow, this is fantastic, the decalling really brings those parts to life in a big way. I'm glad to see an update on this, was wondering where you went. now I cant wait to see what other magic tricks you have up your sleeve for the interior. it will be a real treat.

Re: Topless Trio: 365GTS/4 Daytona

Thank you gents. Glad you like it too. I have to say I am very happy with the way it turned out. I'm almost tempted to glue the hood shut and keep the engine on my desk

I'm probably the last person to tell you about this as I am still trying to get my teeth around this seemingly simple technique - for some reason, it's really giving me trouble.

The short version is adding the tiniest amounts of lighter colored paint to the edges of parts in order to make highlights which then increases the sense of dimension to the part. This technique is complementary (in fact it does the opposite effect) to adding a dark wash to parts.

Dip the tip of your brush into your paint and then rub it on a cloth until there is hardly any paint left (literally!) then flick/rub it over the edges so that it gradually builds up small amounts of pigment.

I did a google search on dry brushing and found tons of links. Gio also helped me with advice that finally got it working for me but the only way is to start practising - I found those part number tags on the sprue a great place to try it out on Also Humbrol polished aluminium Metalcote is currently my fav paint. It is very forgiving, adds the effect quickly (and if it goes a bit wrong it looks like metal weathering )
