thats the way you dont do it....just let him be.......no we have to help him. You went ahead and had the nerve to say, then buy pistons, crank, and upgrade turbo. Sure tell him to kill himself. Judging by his question, he prolly cant handle huge power..... He needs to learn the CAR before he mods it. Check out his car and see whats all wrong with it. A sr is no good if your shit is falling apart and bushings are worn and suspension is loose and clunky. Its little shit like that, that can make a difference. And btw.....just because you get an sr..dont expect it to run perfect right out of the box. It may need oem/aftermarket upgrades to run right......or run at all.....

rb25dett huh, tell me what mods are you going to do it? From stock form? And go ahead and share with the rest of the forum what kind of turbo's a rb25dett has? What car was that engine offered in?

its most likely your upper timing chain guide. Which is a common dealer defect. Which is why the quit supplying them in the timing chain kits. Its a little plastic piece that is held on by two bolts iirc. That will most likely get rid of the tick. Unless you know for a fact thats its your timing chain. But i dont think it would run that good at all if it was that loose lol. or run at all for that fact.

Hey from a guy who's been in a serious wreck, take it slow. Limit yourself to parking lot stupidity, and race on the track. You don't want to have to hear your friend call your mom in the ambulance while your strapped to the backboard to tell her you've been in a wreck. My back will be messed up for the rest of my life because of me an my friends stupid mistake.

Plus you don't need to have power to be fast, take hachi's for example people still compete with them and do rather well.

The timing chain is an easy fix, remove the guide between the camshafts and if it keeps making noise you might need to just replace the chain like I had to. The chain doesn't have to be off by much to make noise.
the chain costs like $40 at a dealer

Re: best motor for s13

dog my boy's ack?

thats a new one...

the reason people are telling you guys to read up is so that you can actually find what you're looking for. i don't think you're gonna find a rb25dett. ever. not for sale at least.. theres no such thing. learn more about the engines before you start lookin to buy one. learn where they're from and what comes with them. that way, you'll be able to talk about an engine that actually EXISTS, instead of babbling about some rb25dett..

on the other hand, i think we're all being a little anal about this.. all you guys need to do is read up on the rb series engines, sr engines, ca engines and ka engines. when you know the differences, you'll be able to figure out for youself which one is the best.

Re: best motor for s13

as a car nut and mechanic, gonna have to agree with most of what chuki has to say here, mighta been a little harsh with it, but since you obviously have the internet, just do a search for the engine, sr, ka, rb, wtf ever and you'll have enough learning material to keep you reading for weeks, do some research and pick some good options and come back with a question like "what do you guys think of the sr compared to the ka"
