Re: My Spyder project plan has become murky.....need help making decisions

I'm just going to think hard on this. It will atleast be a year before I even touch the engine. I'm going to get my suspension 100% first.

Here are some more questions: If I do build the 4G64, how will the stock clutch hold up? I would probably change it anyway, but I was just wondering. Also, how would the transmission, axles, etc hold up? I know I will need a limited slip because as the car is now it likes to spin alot. Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

thank you

You will definately need to change out the stock clutch. Your stocker won't hold up for very long. The tranny itself and the axles should be just fine.

You don't necessarily need a LSD just ease up on the throttle from a stop. lol

Yeah, the problem with that is......I have a heavy right foot and a very light left one. Sometimes its like I couldn't ease up if I wanted to, lol

Re: My Spyder project plan has become murky.....need help making decisions

I am planning on doing the exact same build up this spring once I get my tax return. I think it is easier and just as cost effective to do the build instead of a complete swap. I was told by an engine shop I would be looking at around 4k for the whole build but I don't know exactly. you can turbo the sohc but its not very effective at all if youre real power hungry. you'd be looking at around 10-12 psi max. Its better than nothin but it would give you the big power that I know i want. if i get it goin i will let ya know how it all works out.

Cool.

But my theory was: Me buy a complete 4G63. Then swap it in. This way I could go ahead and mock up all the piping and ect. While I have my 4G64 out I will slightly upgrade the bottom end with forged low compression pistons and what have you. And all this time I will drive around with the 4G63 in. Then when I have everything right: I can take out the 4G63 and bolt everything off of it onto the 4G64. Because I think it would be easier to buy the complete engine than to have to find all the little parts (ECU, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, piping, oil lines, oil pan, turbo, wiring, and everything else).

This is just what I was thinking about doing.

I am hoping that i can buy all brand new parts direct from manufacturers so i don't think the parts will be hard to find or anything like that. To me that route sounds alot more expensive becuase you have to buy the complete engine first then still upgrade the pistons rods and everything to handle the high boost levels, seems like you'd alomost be doing it twice i dunno though. to each his own i guess.
