Re: Horible Day for camaros everywhere!

My uncle was a mechanic and is an allaround car guy, but his entire neighborhood knew it and everyone bugged him all the time, asking for advice, help, favors, etc.
When he finally moved into a new house, he promised himself that he would not tell anyone in his new neighborhood that he worked on cars.
His old neighborhood bugged him so much, that he doesnt really even talk to his neighbors now...he doesnt want to help them, do any favors for them, or even make friends...he just tells me 'been there, done that...never again'
Just got tired of people walking all over him. He has been living in his 'new' house for over five years and doesn't talk to anyone in his neighborhood, no friends.
Be careful or you could end up the same way.

"Teach" her to do it herself.... ofcourse, she'll have to get under the car herself and get dirty and scrape a knuckle or two >) That's the technique I use, "Well, I could show you how to do ________, if you wanna give it a shot."

They learn to do it, and I don't have to get dirty.

Sounds like a case where he couldn't say no. Favors are good for your soul in small numbers, in larger numbers you run the risk of getting punked pretty bad. Lack of return curtacy(sp?) I call it. If you learn how to say "no" without really saying the word, it's not that big of a problem.

A simple way would be to simply: "I don't have the time this week, but I know a really good and fair place up on _______".

Or, use the technique I mentioned above a little ways.

You have to tell your neighbors that small jobs like brakes or sound systems are not for techs and they should really ask you for some help when they can't fix it themself, otherwise, they should learn to do the work themself, buy new tools, rotors, pade, calipers etc because you're busy making a living and they can learn enough of the trade to do what they want to their car with your help, maybe just your guidance....i'm guessing but I'm also 50% sure this will work,
