Steve,

Still working through it. I put on new coils....no change. I AM however no longer getting one cylinder misfiring....it is random misfire code now (P300)....I bought an entire set of injectors off a blown up 3800....w/ 48 k on them. Think I am going to install them and see where that gets me...worst case...these have a lot less miles than mine...and I got them all for 30 bucks!!!

Re: Did the "professional" injection cleaning

If you're talking about the injector wiring, you can buy a cheap "noid light" set. unplug the injector, plug the noid light and crank the engine. The noid light will flash if the harness is ok. Check each injector individually.

Re: Did the "professional" injection cleaning
Cool Steve. It's cause of that radical ass cam huh? LOL

I will say this.....this freakin car pulls HARD from a dead stop.....way harder than some V8's I have had. Love it.

Thanks for the advice on the IAC....I am going to go ahead and clean up the TB while in there to. Might as well.

Hey...ya know...while we are here. What would be your thoughts on the clunking I on the front right side of the vehicle when I step on the gas...AND when I hit the break. CV boots look good...but...could the joints still be causing this? No ticking around corners like you normally here with CV joints either. What do you think?
Check the Lower Ball joint and the Lower Control arm bushings for a front end clunk

Thanks Blue.....will it work to put car on jack stands put the car in drive and reverse to isolate it...or will there not be enough resistance on wheel at that point?

Re: Did the "professional" injection cleaning

Well.....I got a p1404 code today.....EGR Closed Position

I cleaned the EGR vlave a couple weeks ago......could the misfire problem be triggering this code some how?

Also.....I notice that the clunking in the fron end DOES NOT happen when it is really cold outside.....but...when it is warm, it is worse.

I believe it is the other way around Ernie. The EGR valve is stuck in the open position. If this is the case then yes it will affect the idle and other driveability issues because hot exhaust gases may be constantly being introduced into the intake system instead of when required.

Hummmm. Got that code off of the 9145 Actron. You think it is not reading properly and that is is actually sticking open?

Yeah, I've got one too but you have to take the interpretation with a grain of salt. I'm going by the GM Mode 6 odb-ii codes. The DTC error code seems valid but explanations vary. What year, model and engine in your Grand Prix and I'll double check. The parameters for the test are very specific.

"Detects if the EGR valve is stuck open when commanded closed, otherwise DTC P1404 will set".

I sure hope so Ernie. Looks like you are onto something significant. I checked your engine and year specs and the explanation I gave you is applicable and correct.

The other thing the EGR valve does when stuck full or partially open is cause a lean trim condition to the fuel injection system resulting in misfires and a host of other problems. Good luck! and cross your fingers.

Re: Did the "professional" injection cleaning

Hummm. Interesting. I cleaned that bad boy up too....and to no avail I suppose. And by the way...the code was "pending". Another thing to note is the smell of my exhaust at idle. It smells rich.

What do I do? Should I try and find a used one? My wife is ready to kill me with all the money I am spending on chasing the problem. She now contends that I should have taken it to a mechanic...and told her..."he would have to chase to"...and for 75 an hour!!
