Hey Girlbear, I mounted my antenna in the same area as you, but I ran the wire through the third brake light instead.

If you take off the light, feed the wire into the hole, and it'll pop out just under the panel with the rear domelight.

You don't get any exposed antenna wire, and the gasket seals the wire around the light when you reinstall it.

Just a thought...

I've had Sirius for about a year. Been listening to Howard 100 for about 3 months now... The HighPitch Craptacular was probably one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard......(shudder) Though when they did Elegant Elliot being evicted live, I was cheering for the marshall that was evicting him!

Re: Sirius Radio placement

I've listened to howard, off and on, for over ten years, I've never really liked him much, but the wack pack are pretty entertaining. You guys should check out Bubba the LoveSponge, he's going to be doing the afternoon drive on Howard's station. I got Sirius so that I could listen to his show. Bubba's not all that great, but his cast and comedy bits are the best in the business.

Even though this clips were originally broadcast on the air, listener discretion is advised.

I have the PNR-1 with my DEH-860MP Pioneer Headunit. I also ran the antanna through the third brake light cable opening. It's pretty easy. I just cut the rubber plug holding it, and ran the cable through it, and then grabbed some epoxy, sealed the rubber plug back up, and then pushed it back into it's spot. Piece of cake! I ran it all along the trim on the passenger side, and under the dash on the passenger side, nobody notices the antanna, and nobody knows I have sirus, (UNLESS I AM DRIVING WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN, I HAVE 2 W6 SUBS!) then everyone knows what I'm listening too! LOL.

Sweet. THats exactly how i was thinking of doing it. I already took the ashtray out and everything, im just trying to think of a way to mount it to the inside of the ashtray - this way when its not in use i can just close the door and no one will see the mount.

What did you use to mount yours to the ashtray? Any part suggestions would be great. I was going to try and use a part of the sucktioncup mount but i still need a way to fasten that to the inner metal of the ashtray.

On the Kenwood, here is the original mount (cradle and base assembly).

I unscrewed the cradle from the base, and then removed the mounting stud from the base so the bottom was smooth.

I then fab'd a bracket to go under this cradle, cutting around the existing vents to help keep the unit cool. There are 4 holes in the cradle that I put studs through and tightened this new fab'd bracket to the cradle.

Next, I removed the bracket from the cradle screwed it into the braces on either side of where the ashtray was mounted. Once the bracket's in place, re-tighten the cradle to the bracket, complete the wiring on the back side, and you're done.

Note that there was a bracket that's part of the dash, behind the ashtray. I removed this to make room for the Sirius unit.

Here's a closeup of the completed install

The only thing I'd have done different is to paint the brackets black, and to angle the unit up a little higher, so it would be a little easier to read.

Hope this helps!
