I have three good dealership stories. One Cadillac, one Chevy, and one Ford. I will share one now. A friend of mine runs his own garage and is a reputable guy. A man brought his Cadillac in because the milage was off and when he was traveling on the highway the speedometer was reading 100 when he was actually doing around 60 mph. He said the Cadillac dealership wanted $600.00 to remove the cluster and send it off to have it recalibrated. Said it would take about three weeks. My buddy reached in and pressed the button that switches the instruments from metric to standard for free. He gained a customer for life. I'll post the other two when I have more time.

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

Last week, I helped a man at a gas station figure out how to use his radio. The dealership had just sold him the car (with an empty tank, that's why he was getting gas). When he left the dealership, he couldn't figure out how to work it, he went back less than 5 minutes later and they wouldn't help him, but offered to sell him an owners manual.

I know a guy nearby that owns a small shop, he hired another guy to run it. He recently fired him when he found out what the guy was doing...... not only was he ripping off everyone that came in the place, but he was also keeping two sets of books and ripping off the owner as well. His favorite trick was removing a working part, spray painting it and selling it back to the same customer as "refurbished".

I almost bought a '04 blazer from this same dealership, but was totally turned off - we couldn't put a deal together, they were simply unwilling to do anything, I was disgusted, decied to keep my '95 and drive it a little longer.

It's all about the BOTTOM line for the dealership. Just keep that in mind the next time you take your vehicle in. Has anyone ever seen a major dealership go out of business??....my point exactly. The bad thing is that there are good technicians working for the dealership that can't do a thing about what is being charged. Some fat bald guy at the top with his six figure salary is making all of the pricing schedules, while the cheesy incompetant sales team are taking you for a ride...both in the car and in the price!!

I defiently agree bryan, it IS about the bottom line, true very ture, but if it stays only about the bottom line, people like blazee mentioned, about the radio, or 04 blazer about the cluster, or even tom3 about warrenty work e.g. when GM is well aware of common gasket failure in their 3.4, 3.8 engines and their remedy was to deny a defect exsists (yes a defect, poor engineering of gasket, later solved by incorporating torque limiters in the gasket), yet advise customers to bring their vehicles in to have leak sealer poured in their cooling system to remedy the problem, and fix a few here and there if the customer made enough noise. Thats bull shit, and the list goes on. People then wonder why GM is slumping in sales and losing market share to competitors, mainly imports - they worry about the bottom line today, and fail to realize that their actions today have an impact in future sales(customer loyalty), and forget to recall that it actually still IS about customer satisfaction, not only about selling a car, or servicing it, and mostly not only about the bottom line. Well, a person can argue that these dealerships are indeed independant franchises, one may be better than the other, but many don't see it that way. They SEE the GM name on the front sign and it is that they will remember. Its these types of things that make people think twice about buying GM. Yes, GM can have one of the highest initial product quality rankings in North America ( or even the World for that matter), but it doesn't matter at all when a customer is not happy. I know from my own experience, like any other business, you cannot make everyone happy, but if you fail to realize there are more dissatisfied customers than satisfied customers leaving out your door, it won't be long after you will be looking for a new job.

Re: Do you TRUST your local chevy dealer!

I will only take it to the dealer if I KNOW what the problem is.

Taking it there for them to find a problem is more or less handing them your credit card.

Sorry I didn't make my point more clear blazes9395. I was using rhetoric to describe the money hungry corporation. I'm definately NOT defending GM. I agree with you 100%!! It's not hard for a company to figure out why their sales decline....when you piss off your customers, they go elsewhere!!

Now the Turnip Truck, that's a different thing. I might have taken a spill from that one.
