Re: Do you eat meat?

how many of you out there have ever thought about all of them animals and insects that are killed in the process of farming non-meat products.
how many rabbits, foxes, mice, moles etc are shot, trapped or accidentally run over to keep them off the crop and to maintain the land or even in the harvesting process?

life is life.
at least i'm aware of the fact that what i eat used to be a living creature.
are you aware of the animals that are killed that you don't even eat?

I posted much the same thoughts in the 'chicken' thread.

It is, however, worthy of posting here.

Althought PETA has made promotion of humane treatment of animals a point (one with which I agree) they repeatedly have made it their goal to eliminate the use of all food animals; and here is a problem with that stand.

It is the very act of raising animals to be eaten that gives that animal a life, gives it an alleged "intellegence" and gives it life experiences, as much as a farmed animal can have.

It's not like slaughter houses are interrupting the happy lives of chickens in the wild. If we did not eat animals, they simply would not exist. For myself, I would rather have a life; limited as it may be, rather than never to be born (hatched) and never to exist at all.

Now who are we to decide for them they should not exist at all?
Ah, yes, it's the arrogance of groups like PETA who think they know best.

There is no such thing as a free lunch (no pun intended). I have to work for a living to pay for the things I need to survive; and in turn, the animals must do so as well, by becoming dinner.

As for the morality of eating animals; have you ever seen nature shows, where the carnivore hunts and kills they prey? We all hate to see that, but animals are part of the food chain. The deer is food for the wolves, and the wolves eventually die and become carrion for the scavengers and the insects. It has been this way on earth for more than a billion years, since animals evolved beyond the level of the trilobite.

Why should people be made to feel bad about a natural process?
Yes, again, that is the arrogance of PETA again, wanting to reverse a billion years of evolution..........

Most animals cannot comprehend of the abstract notion of free will, individual determination and the rights of others. Therefore, why do they deserve those rights from us?

Dispite this, there are problems with the way many farm animals are raised; organic free - range, drug free cattle are happier, healthier and better for food than feed-lot cattle, which are pumped full of carcenogenic (for the humans eating the meat) steroids and hormones to increase their rate of growth. Note this increased rate of growth makes a feed-lot animal ready for slaughter a year faster than an organically raised animal, so most of North American beef comes from feed lots.

The European Union has banned these growth hormones, making feed-lot animals simply not economically viable there. North American governments have not banned such practices.

IMO Peta should refocus their goals.

Re: Do you eat meat?

i love meat. give me a steak any day of the week.
"i take a vitamin every day. it's called a steak."

i try not to think about how animals are slaughtered and tortured for human consumption. i am not ignorant -- i've watched the videos, read the flyers, heard speeches... i just dont believe that my body would fare very well if i didnt eat meat. i dont think that i could get the same vitamins, nutrients, etc that i get from meat as opposed to eat all things plant-based (ever tried "morningstar farms veggie breakfast sausage patties"? imo....NASTY!!). i respect vegetarians and vegans for their choices in the way they live their life. but, like i said, i love meat.

Wise men once said:
"If god didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat."

And of course:
"For every animal you don't eat, I'm going to eat 3"

Re: Do you eat meat?

Here i'll make it simple: When you eat meat, do your tastebuds tell your brain good or bad? They say "mmmm thats good", it's genetically correct for us to eat it. You don't give animals humaine treatment, because they're not human, they're lower than us, and no matter how cruel it sounds its in our DNA to eat them....and it's seeped into your brain that they have feelings and should be treated like people.

i think the fact that from the time its born its life is planned out and is destined to die "suddenly" lowers its importance...

how many people are out there defending insect rights? exterminators kill millions even more every day... the truth is... they dont look "cute" and you dont have any sympathy for them... thats the only reason why there are even people for animal rights... you see an animal like a cow that reacts to pain similarly to humans and you feel sorry for it... and when you think of it, we kill bugs because they "bug" us maybe give us a little sting once in a while nothing more... big deal... at least we do something with the animals we kill

move to india or something if it matters to you so much
