Finally, I'm gonna be modest, I've only learned on how to work on cars in 2 MONTHS, because the camaro was such a challenge, but If I hadn't bought it I wouldn't have ever figured it out the hard way. And I learned that I love working on cars!

Does anyone agree with him? That's not exactly positive.

sorry cAmaro's are unappealing to me. Thus explains the spelling.

QuickSilver... do you have to visually smog the car? The 305 is a 2 bolt main right? That's kind of a crappy motor, but I guess your options are kinda limited. I was gonna say that if you can get it clean enough to pass a sniffer I would suggest going with a 4bm 327 or 302 (if you can find one) or a 4bm 350 (dime a dozed) and slap the EFI mani back on it. They have conversion kits if the bolts don't line up. It's just that after so many upgrades, that 305 pick-up motor is gonna give you trouble. And go with a World Class T5 tranny. Those 80's auto's are crap, and the late 80's Camaro T5's are kinda nice.

Re: Need Info on V8 swap

I'd rather buy an LS1, which I can afford but another cost might take priority; "only time will tell". I'm looking to fit a 6 speed transmission though. Most GM cars use the T56 and it's easy to find.

I measured the differences between the engine bays of the 240sx and the camaro. 4 inch(2 on each side) difference in width and 1 1/2 difference for length, that was a no brainer because i already know a v8 will fit. What I'm concerned about are the room for headers, air intake, etc.I have a few more questions

If it was an LS1, what kind of exhaust setup should I use? Should I modify a better ram air setup like the one in the camaro? Enjoy picking this apart, Happy Halloween!!!!

Re: Need Info on V8 swap

SR20's got the right idea, Back in the 80's, there weren't many 6 speed transmissions..not sure if there were any, so the 305 with 200hp and 300tq took the t5 tranny. The thing here is the corvette never had the 305 link , yes it was basically a truck engine with more driveability.(Sound familiar?KA) The corvette came with a 5.7 liter 350 tpi, which the top model camaro inherited with, guess what? the automatic 700R4. There were aftermarket 5 speeds like the "Doug Nash 5spd" sold by Mecham Performance.

2 fun facts, 1 is pro FR and the other is pro Nissan, don't say I never gave ya nothin.
1-If you're a proud american, be proud that we have some of the best FR supercars, Corvette and the Viper. Other countries include Germany's MclarenSLR and Great Britain's AstonMartin Vantage.

2-The RPS13 weighs 600 lbs lighter than the camaro, and 400 lbs lighter than the Corvette! May the 240sx live forever!..until rust sets in

It's not like there's a movement out there to do a v8 swap, this is a project. I'd change the name of the thread to 'Ongoing Crap about V8 Swap' though, i don't mind that

Yes I do know what I 700r is. It's a blender. No seriosly, Yes, my cuz and I built one for his 70' malibu. I didn't see the TPI part. But yes the non tpi 305 is a pos. Also as far as the T5 goes, I thought he was going to stick with a stock style tranny like a th350. I like the t56 idea better. My 68 camaro has a 2 speed powerglide, I hate it I want a t56. If I keep my Nova I am going to put a T5 or a M21 in it just because I am not expecting anymore that 400 hp out of it. Like I said I usually stick to car 72 and older. No wires or emissions to deal with.

Re: Re: Need Info on V8 swap

I heard about those nashes. A year ago when I was looking to replace my 3spd with a 5, I was looking for a used t-5 and somebody suggested a nash. I was trying to find out if the spline would fit my 250. Now that I have the 68 camaro, im not sure if I'll keep the Nova, I'm getting a newer car in a few months cause I need the economy but I'm not gonna hop it up. The late 80's WorldClasses are better than the early 80's one I heard. If you gonna go the distance though you might as well stick with the 6spd. I read that they have a lock-out system. It that true. Can you get them without?

Theres that white Surpa out of Las Vegas that has a TH400 in it. Those are good trannys as well. Not as strong as the 700, but a shit load better than the th350. The 2 spd Powerglide can be a sneaky fucker too if you build it correct.
