I have heard, although I can't confirm or deny, that the Thermal R&D exhaust is the quietest. I am still running the stock cat-back for the same reason you are.
Although it's probably costing me 30 - 40 HP, I really don't want anything that sounds like crap. I'm not about to pay $500 for an exhaust and find out that I hate it.
