Bah. OK, so you got me. But it's still an ugly watch. And no, if I had a McLaren, I wouldn't want matching earrings or watches or mats or ashtrays. The car, baby, that's what it's all about it. I would modify it to make it more usable, ie. put in a removable steering wheel, maybe, but I don't get the obsession with the accessories that don't directly relate. It's less about the money and more about reducing clutter...

The fitted luggage would be nice to have. I don't know of many owners that drive their cars on long trips but I would (because I could afford it).

The tool chest is ok but it's not like the wrenches are different than any other wrench. It comes with the torque wrench which is a must-have if you drive the car and do simple things like replacing brake pads yourself.

What else was the F1 supposed to come with? I don't think the true F1 enthusiast owner is interested in earrings and ashtrays, leave that stuff for the Veyron owners

I agree that for me in the end it is about the car. I'm perfectly happy with my Citizen watch and I like to think that I still would be if I had the money for an F1. However, if you also consider the car as an investment (and I think some people would have to) or at least an item that may hold all of it's monetary value if well kept, then it makes sense to want the most complete package possible.

You see those cars at auction or listed in ads that have "all books, records, tools, etc" all the time. That may not make much difference to you personally, but it does make a difference to a lot of other people. Hell, a factory "Ferrari Dino" keychain just sold for several thousand dollars a few weeks back , so there is an undeniable value in this 'superfluous' stuff.

Lol! You guys crack me up.

Peloton,
you are right about this stuff being valuable to some (loony) folk. Ferrari merchandise, especially, seems to be an industry by itself. I do wonder about the folks clambering over each other to buy crap off eGay .

Yes would you believe some guy just paid almost $34 for a little tiny pin with some silly race car on it? Oh, wait, never mind...

Was that you with the higher proxy bid? I wasn't there - I was at the time, but that is twice now I have missed getting the EMKA GTR pin. Maybe I should just give up.

Sadly, the other pin auction that I did win is actually to replace one that I must have accidentally thrown away. I think I had to pay more for it this time around too.

No not me mate. I've got more sense than to pay that much for a little pin! Besides, I'm still trying to figure out how to justify the (ridiculously) high prices that the 1/12 models are trading for. Anyone want to buy a cat? How about some old racing books?

BTW, when I posted my little jab I thought that you had won the pin - I must have looked too quickly and not realized that it hadn't ended. Sorry you missed it again.

Surprisingly, 1/12th scale F1s aren't really selling for too much more than they did when they were first released, percentage wise anyway. I think they are a good deal still, except for bright silver and the ultrarare burgundy - those two never go cheap.

The 1/18th scale UTs were only $30-$40 when new, and most now sell for 3-4 times that.

The 1/43rds can get even more ridiculous with pricing. Like 20x their original price. :22yikes:

You should see what an "LM" pin can sell for - I've seen prices twice that would make you hurl.

I disagree a little bit on that but you are, presumably, basing your math on the $480 price that you've mentioned as being the suggested retail when they were released. I distinctly recall them selling for $299 and I might have even seen them for $275 but I can't swear to it. Now they have changed hands all the way up to $1300 or so although I see a couple have gone unsold recently failing to reach even $500 on fleabay. Quite a good rate of appreciation for a few lucky sellers.
If you know of any that are a good deal at the moment perhaps you could pm me?

Re: Mclaren F1 Owner's Manual

The best deal I heard of was tvrfreak getting a GT brochure for free from the factory and selling it on--it paid for his trip to England that time around! Plus, he's still got scans of it.
