Been out since August.

As for where hip hop is going, it's all on personal opinion. Like Drew and Craig said, it's here to stay but it will evolve over time. I used to listen to rap all the time but now I'm not really into it that much except for only a few.

And what is up with this 'Pretty Ricky' thing? (who started that phrase anyways) I have never heard anyone call me that until I moved to Maryland... ( I also didn't know Pretty Ricky was a group until I saw their vid)

One thing im not really into about the new rap is how everyone is just bragging.. everyone it seems has 20s on their mercedes, bentlys and now they're cruising around in Gallardos. I mean sure its cool and all but kinda tired about hearing how big your rims size is and how much cash you got in your right pocket. How bout something that actually sounds good when you rhyme it? Other than that, the mafia being back is something good to hear about.

i think 95% of anything you have seen on MTV since like oh i dont know 98-ish maybe is garbage.

but "bay area" rap is still going strong (keak da sneak, mistah f.a.b., san quinn's got a new album coming out, so does E-40, we got andre nickatina, equipto, AP-9, Jacka, Rydah J, Klyde, Husalah, Fed-Ex, EA-Ski, Ya Boy, Balance, A-Wax, Messy Marv, Turf Talk, Smigg Dirtee, Gorilla Pits, Yukmouth....)

so i could give a fuck where everyone else is going (downhill bigtime), we are doin just fine over here.

We're doing just fine here in Minneapolis too, no shortage of MC's and DJ's with some real talent...

This is very true - although my broke ass hasnt gotten the new Atmosphere cd - I heard my friends copy...the beats are like 4 times better than Lucy Ford - this has already been added to the "Things to bump the shit out of when I get my car back" list.

Re: Hip Hop Listers - Discussion about hip hop's direction

Hip hop, true hip hop, will never die. There's so much fresh talent coming out along with what's already here. Along with the others mentioned we've got Aesop Rock, El-P, Atmosphere, Swollen Members, JMT, etc....

Gangsta rap is dying though, it's becoming the faggot mainstream shit. I'll admit, I enjoy 50 cent, The Game etc, I like some commercial stuff because it's fun to listen to, and some of it's easy to dance to. So sue me.

For the real thoughtful stuff, I turn on 2Pac or the others' I've mentioned.

It's not dying, the good stuff's just hiding away. You just gotta look a little harder and remember that rap on MTV != hip hop.

Re: Hip Hop Listers - Discussion about hip hop's direction

hip hop is just messed up, it's all becoming a big publicity stunt. rappers are selling out for more money and the real rappers are all broke because nobody wants to listen to real stuff anymore, they just want to listen to some retard talk about his rims for 5 minutes. but i still listen to it because even though it's crappy, it still sounds good. 50 cent is alright but i don't understand how ja rule could have been on top and some guy who got shot 9 times just comes in, says that his music isn't real and everybody goes along with him. i like 50 cent's music but i expected more realness from somebody who had a story like his

Re: Hip Hop Listers - Discussion about hip hop's direction

For the most part, I think rap is dead. Very few good rappers are left. 3-6 turned into a joke. Crunchy and DJ Paul...'nuf said. One's a cracked out retard and the other just cant rap for shit (listen to "stay" fly). Now we have Mike Jones. Oh snap! Or we hae Jim Jones, even better. I've always been a rocker but this new direction rap/hip hop has taken is just a shame.

Re: Hip Hop Listers - Discussion about hip hop's direction

Out of that list I like Dead Prez, Gorilla Pits, and thats it. I used to like T.I. until I heard that "you don't know me" bs. That pretty much killed the hope of me ever liking any of of his other stuff. Like I said, I'm not a big rap fan in the first place.

lol how the hell have you even heard of Gorilla Pits? i bet you havent even heard most of those artists.... TI and Dead Prez are the only ones that arent northern california rap...Nickatina is pretty well known, E-40, San Quinn, Too Short are the only ones you have heard i bet... seriously this shit hardly ever gets on the radio around here and 90% of people on that list soundscan 10k or less...or way less... I know that 90% couldnt be found in any record store near you.... be honest...have you really heard them or not? i smell bs.

yeah but wow. really i try to search that regularly just to see if i can get new stuff and hardly anything comes up. like 1-3 songs for a lot of the artists that arent even their good stuff. props to your limewire skills though if you can get it. did you pay for the upgrade? maybe its because im using the free shit.

edit: yeah theres a lot not on limewire. im coming up with 0 for a-wax, 0 for smigg dirtee, 0 for fed-x, 2 for bailey, 2 for balance, 1 for ya boy, only features for AP-9, PSD, theres no Money Gang, not enough Mob Figaz... not enough!!! keak, fab, dubee, yuk, team, federation, b-legit, nickatina, quinn, messy, jacka are all on there though so thats good.
